A good way to use old mugs or even punch cups is to set a few cups on a tray, each one containing store bought votives (normally it takes two). Set the tray in the oven on 250 degrees F and let the candles melt.
Here's a great fundraising idea that my Relay for Life team developed. We purchased 60 small teacups and saucers off ebay. We took the cups to a local candle making shop and had them put a wick and scented candle wax in the cups.
I recently started making candles again. My question is after the wax has hardened and I release the wax from the mold, there is a white haze on top of the wax. I tried and remelted the wax on a lower temp. thinking the wax was too hot when poured, but I got the same results. Any tips on how to fix this? Thank you.
I bought an old coffee maker at the thrift store for about $4 and use it to melt bits of old candles with. I made molds from plastic container of different shapes and sand molds from the dollar store.
Homemade scents for candlemaking. My best suggestion is to use a few drops of essential oil. Find the scent you like best and use that. Essential oils should mix with the wax and retain their scent.
Candles to Get Rid of Germs. They make candles to get rid of smoke odors, pet odors, etc. Do you all know if they make a candle you can burn to get rid of germs when someone is home sick with a cold?
Has anyone ever heard of "whipped candles"? When I was 14, my friend's mom used to use a large mixture to make these "textured" candles. She would sell them to make money for the holidays. I remember them like it was last week.
