Allow Your Dishwasher to Air Dry
To save energy costs, I fire off that sucker just an hour before bed time, then when it's done washing, I crack it open and let it air dry. If you are picky, picky, this will not eliminate all of the water spots, but your dishes will be clean!

Hot Water Could Cause Kidney Stones in Pets
In speaking to my Veterinarian, she said that the minerals from the hot water tank would cause kidney stones and not to give water from the hot water tank to the pets.

Turn Off the Lights Kids (or it Will Cost You)
Teach kids the value of turning off lights as they leave a room by implying to them that each time costs (for instance) $1. Explain to them that the lights cost money every month and if you have to turn the lights out for them, each time you do that, charge them $1.

Use Solar Power To Make Your Tea
I make a half gallon bottle of sun tea using black tea and another using green tea, 2 bags in each. I'm using solar power and the tea is never bitter. Now I always have iced tea on hand and anytime I want a cup of warm tea, I use the microwave to heat it.

Installing Alternative Energy Sources
Has anyone installed solar panels and/or a windmill? I would like to hear of your experiences. How did you get started? Did you use a contractor? If so, how did you find one? Have you covered all of your electricity needs this way? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

Making Solar Panels at Home
Can't find former post about DIY solar panels. It was by a woman and could be done for about $150.

My Frugal Life: Saving on Electricity
I started being conscious of energy use via lighting in the 70's. The first thing I did was train my 2 children to turn off the lights when they weren't using them. I began buying task lighting for them, and unscrewed the huge incandescents in the house.

Saving Energy By Air Drying Laundry
Hang your wet laundry on a drying rack until it is about half or more than half dry and then finish it in the dryer. The machine will last longer and you will save tons of electricity.

Desert Gardening Tips
I live in the desert Southwest and it was costing and arm and a leg to water my plants even though we have no lawn and plant desert adapted versions of plants. Trying to water sparingly just killed plants and made the survivors look droopy.

Water Plants With Leftover Ice
When watering indoor plants, try using ice cubes instead of water. They melt slowly, letting the soil absorb it better. This may not work for all plants, test first.
