The Basics of Square Foot Gardening
By Ellen Brown
Square foot gardening is a concept so easy, yet so overlooked in lieu of more traditional row or mound gardens. It is less time consuming, less physically demanding, and uses less space and water.

Cultivating a Natural Garden
By Ellen Brown
One of the most prevalent attributes common to natural gardens is that they work with - not against - nature. The design has the appearance of a garden that happened naturally instead of a planned, sculptured look.

Plants That Grow Well in Rocky Ground
We just moved here and the ground is really hard (sorta clay I guess ) and has lots of rocks. We've been picking rocks since we've got here and I would love to plant some different types of plants around and flowers.

Use Canning Lids for Marking Your Seeds
Don't discard those canning lid rings when they no longer are suitable for canning use. They are handy in the garden when you have young ones helping you with the gardening. Plant your seeds in the center of the rings or place the rings over young seedlings.

Using Straw Bales For Gardening
This idea is very old, my grandmother used to have straw bale gardens. It was great for her not to have to stoop over to pick and weed her garden. I have done this type of gardening for the past 3 years and had very good results. You start with Straw bales (not hay).

Can I Plant Crape Myrtles In The Summer?
I just received 4 crape myrtles and wondered if they would make it if I planted them now, in the middle of July? Our soil is somewhat hard, and they would be in a full sun area. Do you think I should wait until the fall, or plant them now?

Planting In Potting Soil Bags
We found in Mother Earth News how to garden without having to till the soil. We are renting a home and really do not want to put too much work into garden spot. The magazine suggest buying potting soil bags, punching holes in the bottom of the bag; then cutting open the top. Plant straight into the bags.
