Substitute Old Toothbrush for Nail Brush
I was planting some of my flowers and vegetable plants this afternoon, and after washing my hands, still had dirt caked under my nails. I realized that I don't have a nail brush, so I started glancing around the bathroom, and found a good substitute!

Use Pine Needles for Mulch
If you have any pine trees in your yard, use the needles as mulch! I did that in our veggie and flower gardens this year and it really holds up. You would be amazed and how much pine needles are under one tree!

Sunken Beds for Arid Climates
If you garden in an area with poor soil fertility and drainage, you're probably familiar with the advantages of planting in raised beds. Less familiar, however, may be the concept of sunken beds - beds dug down to sit slightly below the soil surface.

Recycle Plastic Bottles to Water Plants
When it comes to summer time and plants drying out, what I find works, is taking water bottles (like Perrier water bottles found in the recycle box at work), filling them up with water, and then sticking them in soil about 2-3 inches in the soil.

Garden: Clear VHS Cases For Seedlings
When our library decided to get rid of videos in favor of dvds, all the old transparent plastic cases went in the waste bin. This is a cloche made from some that I rescued. Superb for plants and less for landfill!

Vinyl Blinds for Plant Markers
I take an old plastic Mini-Blind. cut the string to remove slats off the string. Take 3 slats at a time stacked and flush, Start my first cut at the hole for the strings, use that as a size guide cutting down the slat, using up the slat.

Reuse Sheer Curtains for Garden Shade
Create a simple frame or some way to support fishing line or some type of string then use old sheer drapery panels (cheap at garage sales) and place panels over top and secure to the string or line with clothespins.

Paint Garden Markers on Rocks
We decided to use what we had in abundance to mark our garden rows last year. So we painted the veggie names on large rocks we have all around our house and yard. We simply found some flat-ish rocks and wrote the names on with a paint marker.

Marking Seed Rows
Put your seed packet row markers in an upside-down closed zip lock bag and secure it with a clothes pin, the rain will stay out and the wind won't blow it away. Also face it away from the direction of the sun and it won't get sun bleached so quickly.
