RE: Rehydrating Beans in Hard Water
Post by Tapestry Lady (25)

A spoonful of baking soda should help to soften the water, but salt should be avoided as it toughens the beans. Age affects them too, so if they're older than six months you might consider buying some new as the older ones are harder. If it's still a problem you might use filtered water to soak. Good luck!

I would think once you got the basic shape down you could improvise to other characters. Seems like i remember seeing an angel one and an elf one before.

This is an adult size, take child's measurements and make it smaller.

RE: Information About Shih Tzu Dogs
Post by RowdyGirl (6)

I am a BIG fan of Shih-Tzu's and have had a few in my life time. My current Shih-Tzu is a beautiful 12 lb boy named Kooper. They do need to be groomed approx every 6-8 weeks. AND you need to comb them out at least every other day or their hair will mat up. They are noted for being cuddly lap dogs but also playful at the drop of a hat. Very smart too. Another site is the American Kennel Club -- they determine what is considered "standard" in the breed -- www.akc.org. Good luck!

RE: Do Asiatic Lilies Develop Seeds?
Post by mara_admin (3)

Most Hybrid lilies are sterile, but if the lilies you have can produce seeds, a pod will form where the flower was. Wait until this has dried out before harvesting. Upon splitting the pod open you will find hundreds of seeds.

RE: Autism Financial Advice
Post by KimLowery (1)

this is unrelated to the topic but I saw several posts including info that your child is not potty trained...
I bought several books and none were helpful.
when my son was about to turn 4 he needed to be potty trained to attend his preschool... if I put underwear on him, he would hold it for hours like 8 plus... since he is such a visual learner... I asked my sister to video my nephew (6 months younger than my son) going potty. (I know that may sound strange but video helps so much with anything I want to teach him that I knew this would help too, plus you can just delete right off the camera once he has seen it a couple times) my son watched it once and went right to the toilet and stood there ready to go!
He didn't go but it was a step in the right direction. The next step was that my husband and I actually had to force him to stand up in the bathroom b-c he would have to go so badly and he would just sit on the floor to try to get rid of the sensation... he had great control. He cried but we forced him to stand and he couldn't hold it anymore and he went in the potty and has ever since. Over the past year he only had one accident at school. As a special positive reinforcer, we placed a bubble machine on the back of the toilet and turned it on for a couple minutes each time he went potty. I still remind him but he usually goes on his own. Going number #2 is still a little bit of a challenge, reminding him to go but he has no problem sitting on the potty. I know it was totally off the topic but I've shared this with others and it has helped. Hope no one minds.

RE: Recipe to Bring to Thanksgiving Dinner
Post by Frazzled Leslie (36)

Try this salad: Just open a can (or more) of kernel corn add whatever you like (chopped green and red pepper, black beans, onions, etc.) Dress with Italian Salad dressing and voila, a great dish for any party or time of year.

What's nice about this is that it doesn't have to be chilled and can be assembled at the site as long as you remember to bring a can opener.

RE: Mix and Match Frozen Soups
Post by tennesue (308)

What I don't see and would like to is the recipes for your basic soups that you freeze. In the summer I freeze a tomato soup that can become all manner or creatures, but I'd like to learn of some more. Thank you.
