RE: Buy Savings Bonds for a Great Savings Rate
Post by jabsgram (23)

Bonds used to be a good deal. No longer is that true. You are better off putting a few bucks in a credit union money market fund. The more you save the higher the interest rate.
The credit union account is even better than my savings bank account which is only at .25%.
The credit union account is also protected the same as the bank.

Also latex primer or paint won't stick to oil based primer or paint.

RE: Inexpensive Christmas Gifts for Assisted Living Residents
Post by catastrofy (310)

I worked in an assisted living home and the residents were always asking me for ANY kind of home made snacks....cookies, brownies, soft candy...one lady asked me if I could make her a salmon loaf, and a gentleman just wanted a nice bowl of home made tomato soup...check dietary restrictions first, but people really miss anything home made in small batches instead of bulk made meals...and good for you for wanting to give something nice to others!!

RE: What Kind of Tree is This?
Post by Gorius (11)

Thanks for the suggestion. The place here that sells trees knows nothing. County Agent? What's that? How do I find one? Several friends and I have all looked at all the pictures in all of our tree books (5 different books!), but can't find anything with that leaf formation. Surely someone has seen it somewhere and can give me a clue??

We use "pull-ups" with a slit cut through for the tail nub.

If you have an ACE hardware near you & haven't, try them. I've had some success in finding the oddball, not in high demand things there.

RE: Subtract Savings First
Post by TXBetty (112)

I tried rounding up amounts in my checkbook but it drove me crazy when I tried to balance. If I'm off it's a lot of trouble balancing when rounding up. I do all my banking online so I have a dollar amount transferred from checking to saving every week. But with this economy it seems I'm constantly having to go online and transfer monies back to checking. I'm able to save with online transfers but it's frustrating when I have to go into saving. I have to help out my daughter for medical as she has no insurance so this is a necessity.
