Fourth of July Wind Chime

Fourth of July Wind Chime
Fourth of July Wind Chime
Here's a fun little wind chime your kids will love to make and hang for their Fourth of July Celebration.

Crafting Time: about 1 hour

Materials

  • Blue plastic disposable cup
  • Ruler
  • Masking tape
  • Scissors
  • 6 - 8 inch piece of red ribbon
  • Red glitter pom-poms
  • Craft tacky glue
  • Scraps of white craft foam
  • 2 yards of both white and blue ribbon
  • 8 small Liberty Bell shaped jingle bells

Instructions

  1. Place a line of masking tape around the blue plastic disposable cup, 2 - 2 1/2 inches from the bottom. The tape will prevent the cup from splitting when it is cut. Cut the cup alongside the masking tape closest to the cup's rim. You will discard the "drinking" end of the cup and keep the smaller end.
  2. Poke a hole in the center of the bottom of the "small" cup. Knot the ends of your 6 - 8 inch piece of red ribbon together to form a loop. Push the loop up through the hole, so the knot rests inside the cup. This loop will be the hanger for your wind chime. You can glue the knot in place, if you like.
  3. Glue red glitter pom-poms around the upper and lower edges of the cup.
  4. Draw and cut 3 white stars from craft foam. Glue these to the cup between the pom-pom rings.
  5. Cut 8, 8 inch pieces of ribbon, 4 white and 4 blue. Slide one end of each piece of ribbon through the hole in a small Liberty Bell shaped jingle bell. Glue the ribbon end to the ribbon just above the bell to secure the bells to the ribbons. Glue the opposite end of each length of ribbon to the inside of the cup, spacing evenly.
