Learning to Knit Vs. Crochet

I'm 15 and I've been wanting to learn how to knit or crochet. My mom told me that it would probably be easier for me to crochet, but I just wanted to get a few opinions. So which do you think would be better? I don't know if it matters, but I'm wanting to make scarves and small blankets. I would really appreciate some responses. Thanks.
