Dog Collar Advice

My American Staffordshire Terrier keeps rubbing his neck raw with his collar and causing it to get infected and i keep taking him to the vets and they say to leave the collar off but then he scratches it and makes it worst. What kind of collar should i use to keep him from rubbing it raw when it heals?
