Troubleshooting Kenmore Refrigerator Ice Maker

I purchased a Kenmore SXS refrigerator (Model 50532101) from the original owner 2 months ago. Everything was OK, but just recently the ice maker stopped producing ice. The water line is turned on. It is time to change the filter. Could this stop the unit from producing ice? Also, the plastic water line inside the fridge is very long and wrapped up inside. What should I do about this? The previous owner had the refrigerator located a long distance from the water line.
