Taking Care of Clematis

The theory that clematis like their feet cool and their head in the sun is true, so be sure to put several inches of mulch at the base of the vine.

Feed with liquid fertilizer throughout the growing season.

A newly planted clematis needs lots of water to get established especially if your planting it along a wall or fance, or there is a dry spell.

I prune my clematis back in mid-May here in Ontario, Canada. Zone 5
