Three-Leaf Clover Pencil Holder

By Teri Clark

Nothing sparks a child's imagination like a toilet paper tube. I've seen kids use them for telescopes and binoculars, to roll marbles through, to use as wands, and much more. The most creative use I've found, however, is to turn them into something extremely useful - a pencil holder!

Materials:

  • Smooth, thick cardboard
  • 3 toilet paper tubes
  • Glue
  • Paint
  • Market

Tools:

  • Scissors
  • Stapler
  • Paintbrush

Steps:

1. Make a slit from top to bottom on each of the 3 toilet paper tubes.

2. Attach the tubes with staples to make a clover shape.

3. Cut out a 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch piece of cardboard. This will be the base of the pencil holder.

4. Glue the tubes to the center of the base.

5. Once the glue dries, use the marker to draw a pretty shape for the base and then cut it out. You can use a circle or you can try to make the clover shape or you can just use your imagination!

6. Paint the pencil holder both inside and out.

Now all you have to do is gather together all your pencils and keep them in the holder you have created!

Additional Ideas: Consider adding more tubes to create a bigger holder. You might even want to cut down a few paper towel tubes to give your holder different dimensions!
