Keeping a Destructive Puppy EntertainedI just adopted the puppy a few weeks ago as a companion dog for my older male dog. I keep them both in the walk-in 'mud' room in the basement (where the washer/dryer/hot water heater are located). It has cement floors and walls for easy cleaning (think of a kennel run) and it's secure to keep them safe and out of the rest of the house during the day. My husband and I work full time (leave the house at 7am, return at 5pm). We walk and play with our dogs while we're home and before we leave, but during they day they have both become 'destructo' dogs. He was a bit before we got her, but she's just horrible! We can't keep carpet squares (for them to lay on off the cement floor), bedding, newspaper, etc in the room because she gets to destroying them, chewing and shredding. She had found a weakness in the cement floor and dug a hole into the dirt under it. We put large landscaping blocks over it. Problem solved. Now she's digging into any crack and crevice she can find including around the door frame. HELP! I need to find ways to keep them both entertained, busy and challenged through the day. Unfortunately there is no one near (child or elderly individual) that can let them out to go for a walk during the day. Believe me, I've looked. So I know I'm prepared for her to make messes because she's a puppy yet (which she does on the papers on the other end away from her toys and bedding). But I can't keep letting her be destructive, eating things like bits of concrete or plastic she's chewed off the toys or bedding bits. What can I make with things at home or inexpensive things I can find at hardware stores, dollar stores, etc to keep both of them busy, entertained, and challenged during the time I'm not at home?
