Cigarette Smoke Smell on Fleece Fabric

I just received a huge bag of fleece for free (I made cat and dog toys at home for extra income). Although, I'm beyond grateful to the person who gave it to me, she neglected to tell me she smokes... a lot! The fleece is saturated with the smell of smoke. I need a safe way to clean/get rid of the fleece smell without ruining the fleece itself. I generally don't wash the fleece because it pills.

Thanks so much in advance for any help you guys can offer!
