Smoke Odors From a House Fire on Furniture

After a recent house fire, a family member found all the clothing and furniture worth salvaging reeked of smoke odor. This is much worse than cigarette odor, or stove fire odor and seems to creep out into a room. Does anyone have tips for removal of the odor, particularly from the wood furniture? Washing the clothing repeatedly has not worked, and even dry cleaning has not helped the bulkier items much. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
