There is a long tradition of removing ink from various items, such as clothing, with hairspray. You can do it more cheaply. The ingredient in hairspray that dissolves ink is the rubbing alcohol.

On wood, you might find that a colorless beverage-type alcohol works with less damage to the wood. Cheap vodka would probably work without staining. Good vodka would be pretty expensive for stain removal, but the cheap stuff has a few uses; it can lift out other alcohol-based stains, like red wine stain and perfume stains, and sometimes works to remove perspiration stains. Just do yourself a favor and don't taste cheap vodka.

Try soaking the ink with hairspray. It does wonders on ink!

First try rubbing with a cloth dampened in warm water and detergent.

Scouring powder will help remove many stains, but can also permanently scratch the paneling. If you decide to use it, use only a mild type like Bon Ami or better yet first try baking soda, and be very careful about rubbing too much.

Concentrated liquid commercial household cleaners, rubbed onto a stubborn spot, may remove it as well as scouring powders without the danger of scratching. Rinse off well.

After removing a stain, rinse the area thoroughly, dry completely, and, if the finish has been removed in that area, recoat with appropriate finish or wax.
