Its methanol. no capital letters. Since this alcohol is endemic in laboratories, there is no reason to capitalize as if its a proper noun. Spelling counts, as well!
Try using cyclohexane or toluene, or maybe a 50/50 (v/v) phenol/chloroform mixture. That will dissolve most anything.

I have an even better one. I picked up my 14 yr old from school today to discover that she coloured her own hair with a RED SHARPIE! This genius child actually thinks that SHARPIES are NOT permanent!
Did I mention that her hair is PINK in one spot, right in front of her face! Needless to say I am less than pleased! I am not going to bother with helping her to remove it, I am going to fix this the old fashioned way, with SCISSORS! Happy Valentine's Day!

WOW! Because of what I read on this page, I was able to remove blue pen ink from the front cover of a book (padded cardboard covered in some type of vinyl). I used the rubbing alcohol, and it looks BRAND NEW! Thanks :-)

Acetone Nail Polish Remover worked better than rubbing alcohol (or any other cleaner) to take blue dry erase Expo marker stains off new tile grout on our bathroom floor! Thank you for all the ideas - I was panicked!

My 3 year old son wrote ALL over my brown leather couch with a expo dry erase marker. Any suggestions? I've tried alcohol, coppertone, leather cleaner and some stuff called uv-3 leather ink erase and none have worked yet. PLEASE HELP.

How do i get dry erase board markers marks off of a white wall without taking off the paint?
Editor's Note: I had this problem, I'd tried everything on just one line on my wall from a dry erase marker. All kinds of cleaners. The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser took it right off. Get it wet, squeeze out and try on some of the spots. Be careful though because if you scrub too hard, you can also take off the paint.

Many thanks. 20 month old just drew on blue carpet in rental house, not on his dry erase board. Mother panicked. Read posts. Used cheap hairspray. Stain gone. Happy mother. Child off hook :)

I've read a lot of these posts, and most of you are saying to use either rubbing alcohol or hairspray to get expo markers or sharpies out of carpet. Does the stain area come out lighter in color or no change in the carpet after the stain is removed?
I've got two red expo stains in my kids room, and laundry deter, and carpet cleaning did nothing. Please let me know if the R.A. or the hairspray changes the coloring of the carpet. Thanks.

I don't know if anybody here needed/wanted to know how to get Sharpie marker off of a whiteboard, but I know how to do it in seconds! Here is what you do: take an Expo marker and trace over the Sharpie marks. Then, use a whiteboard eraser to erase it all! Yay! :)

My daughter got bright red dry erase marker streaks on her favorite blue jeans. She didn't tell me and they went thru the wash and dryer before I discovered them. I followed some of the above advice and I saturated the stains with dry erase cleaner spray and let it sit one hour, then I scrubbed Murphy's Oil soap with a tooth brush....nothing. I was worried. Then, I followed one more piece of advice and took a tooth pick and scraped at the stain thru the fibers of the denim and with some effort got all of the stain out. Couldn't believe it. I almost gave up...I'm glad I didn't...Thanks for the advice!! 10/15/07

Be careful with alcohol because it dissolves paint also, so for example if u got sharpie on your wall, itll get the sharpie off, with the paint lol

Try Amodex Ink & Stain Remover. I heard about it from the marker company Sanford and swear by it. Amodex is
a liquid, cream soap (really mild) and takes out all inks including Sharpie. Just don't put anything else on the stain first or you might set it. Don't use alcohol!

In the lab we use acetone, common nail polish remover. Acetone is a great solvent, that dissolves many compounds.

Try Clorox Stain Out. My husband works as a server in a busy restaurant and i have found that this stuff is my "miracle" solution. I have removed everything from raspberry syrup to ink.

Alcohol does work best.
Hairspray, particularly cheap harispray works so well because it has a lot of alcohol in it.
If your really desparate, a lot of drug stores sell 91% isopropyl - which is stronger than the usual 70% that they sell.

I'm not sure about Sharpie pens, but I know that hairspray works wonders to remove ink stains. In my experience, the cheaper the hairspray, the more effective its power is! (Think: Aquanet!)

I know that toothpaste scrubbed in will get rid of regular ink stains, it might do for the dry erase marks too. We used turpentine to get Sharpie ink off of our walls without wrecking the paint, maybe you could try it on a hidden piece of the uniform to see if the material can take it first. Good luck, my husband is a carpenter and i have to get rid of all kinds of stains too!! :)
