Where do Earwigs Nest? Thanks, VeronicaCB from Fort St John, BC Feedback About This Post:RE: Where do Earwigs Nest?
They lay their eggs in dirt. They get in our house around the doors. They like dark damp places.I found them in damp towels in our bathroom and I have even found one in my egg carton on the bottom shelf of the fridge not on the door part but the fridge itself.I've planted marigolds in pots on my deck and most bugs don't like them but every time I plant them the leaves get stripped and the only thing I ever see on them is earwigs. Post by lindybell RE: Where do Earwigs Nest?We lived in a house that temporarily had an earwig problem. The way we remedied it was to remove all vegetation from around the foundation of our house. My husband made a 6 inch wide trench around the foundation, and filled it with gravel. We had a large crack in our foundation where an addition had been built, and he used a shop vac to suck them all out, then filled the crack with concrete. It took a while to remove them from the house. We eventually moved into a new house, and we have not seen any evidence of the bugs having followed us. I never noticed them getting into food in our pantry, but any stray pieces of dog food would attract them, as well as the dogs water dish. They do like moisture. Any flower beds outside our house had lots of the earwigs in the dirt. I had to dig up a very large bleeding heart plant that I loved for many years, but I didn't want the bugs getting into our house! Good Luck, and I hope some of this info can help. Post By Tammy (Guest Post) RE: Where do Earwigs Nest?I recently read that they eat leaves/vegetables/fruit, not meat, but they look so fierce and smell so bad, that I thought they liked the indoors best. Now I'm not so sure. I have always seen them outdoors, so I'd not move any potted plants without repotting and checking inside the bottoms for the earwigs. Also, at your next home, buy some Boric Acid to dust around and into the pipe holes under each sink, behind the fridge, and deep in the panty closet on the floor away from any pets or child access. Don't leave damp clothes or ANY clothes on the floor, and keep your floors very clean, not eating except in the kitchen. That should keep them at bay. God bless and help you. : ) Post By Lynda (Guest Post) RE: Where do Earwigs Nest?Earwigs live wherever it is cool and preferably damp- they may hitch a ride with you out of the basement but if you won't be living in another basement they should leave on their own to go to their preferred habitat. HTH My toughguy husband gets totally freaked out by these guys. lol Post by tupperangel |
