I use the razor and special creme made for the flat tops, but it's not very effective. I found that the magic eraser works pretty well.
NOTE: If you use ceramic pans make sure they are safe for flat tops. My husband & I bought some and thankfully read the "instructions" it says do NOT use on flat tops.

I had the same problem with the top of the stove looking terrible and burnt in. I used Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and WOW! the difference was amazing! It took little to no elbow grease and no additional cleaners. I just wet the eraser and wiped and it literally was like new! Good luck to you all.

Easy Off has a new glass top cleaner that works very well. It doesn't leave the streaks and smudges that the other cleaners did. I have a GE black surface which has been a pain to clean. I still need the razor for the burnt on stuff. I had a gray glass top stove in another house that cleaned much easier.

I just purchased a black glas stovetop. On the first use, I wiped a small spill with a kitchen towel, melting/burning the towel slightly. It left a foggy streak on the edge of the burner. I was sick to my stomach! I used baking soda and water. It came right off! What a relief!!!

Thanks for the tip about the oven cleaner! I just got a new stove and had a burned sponge mark. I had tried everything. Easy off worked. Heated it up then wiped off. Thanks)

I have tried a bunch of methods to clean our Kenmore Elite flat top range but nothing beats the oven cleaner spayed on top then heat up for 10-15 seconds and wipe clean with damp cloth before a final regular clean with soap an water once range has cool down.

Never realized that the flat top would be such a nightmare to clean. We are tidy people and even our friends have made comments on what an eye sore the stains are. We have tried many recommendations to no avai. It is white top and wanted black but I see black is no better from the comments. Next time I will just go back to a regular stove. This one is so embarrassing for people to see. I want to just cover it with a table cloth. LOL

Ladies and Gentlemen!
I'm supposed to be watching my sisters house and I just made a wreck out of her black, flat top range. I went frantic and found 'cook top' brand 'cleaning creme for smooth top ranges' I put it on while the top was cool and grabbed the damp dish sponge (using the scrubber side) and gently scrubbed the 'stains' away!

Before I bought my whirlpool Gold, I asked around and 9o% loved them. They mentioned about using the razor blade to clean spills. So I bought one and now regret it. I love the flat surface, but like everyone else, I hate cleaning it. I have 6 cleaning products and a razor and nothing works that great. To make it worst, the afternoon sun shines on it and you can see any streak or spot. I am going to take the suggestion and try the soft scrub with bleach.

I use on my Flat Top (Jenn Air), Wright's Cooktop Cleaner that I buy at HEB and a "straight pin" to get to hard to take off burned food. I take the time to take the element off and while I watched TV I used the cleaner and a little straight pin to gently scrape off burned grease off the edges. That worked for me! Good Luck!

Help we just bought a jenn air flat top black surface stove. There are spots from where things have boiled over along with brown spots from cooking. I have tried a lot of things to clean it. Any suggestions?

I have a friend who was given a specialized razor blade when she purchased her stove, it was from the manufacturer in order to keep it clean. I haven't tried it yet myself.

I see a lot of people are having the same problem as I am with there flat surface stove. I boiled over and I cleaned everything off except now it seems like there is a stain seared into the glass! Is there anything that I can do to fix it?

I can't believe how many people have had the same prob. as I have! In the past, I have only had electric stoves -so I have never had this prob. I love my flat top stove but hate the fact that I can't keep it tidy! I like a clean house and it's driving me crazy. Thanks for the suggestions! I will surely try them!

How can i get cooked on sugar off of my stove? i tried scraping but it won't come off. Any advice?
Editor's Note: Take a wet rag or sponge and let it sit on the spot for a while, it will soften it so you can get it off.

I have a grey glass stove top that has a deep burn spot underneath the glass. Does anyone know of a cure for this? I've tried every cleaning product and it does not lift the stain from underneath the glass. The stove really looks yucky. According to Sears I can only replace the top for $500 yikes ----help if you can. Thanks

the easy off worked great! I had to turn on (let burner warm up) and off, I took a metal spatula and covered it with a damp dish cloth, then scraped the plastic off. Repeated as necessary. About 3-4 for me. I was nervous about letting it get too hot. Thanks so much for the tip!!!!

I have a flat top stove that appears to have a stain seared into the glass. I was out of town and my house sitter must have burned something and attempted to get it off before it was cool. I hate the way it looks...can anyone help me? It is not on the top of the stove but seemeingly in the glass. Thanks

I have a brand new stove and the first time I used it it looked scratched and foggy. I also have a bunch of brown spots that look to be under the burner. I think it is from grease popping as I was cooking then burning to the burner. I have tried cleaners, scrubbers and even a razor blade and they are still there. Any suggestions would be great.

I use oven cleaner. letting it set then washing with warm soap & water. Then Glass cleaner and polish with wax.
But I have two areas that look like they are burned in the top of my glass top.
CAN anyone please tell me how to get the spots out?
I love my stove, but these marks look AWFUL!

THIS WORKS FAST!!!!
CERAMA BRYTE® Cooktop Cleaner will take anything off after hours of scubbing. Mix it 50/50 with "Goo Gone" (Clear bottle with Yellow/Orange Liquid.)
This is what happens: Cerama is basically a VERY FINE liquid sandpaper. It slowly scratches away the burnt food. Goo Gone slowy penetrates to liquify to food. Together the Cerama scatches and the Goo Gone to strips the food Very Fast.
Stains I had for months were literally gone in seconds.
IMPORTANT!!!! - Goo Gone can be flamible and the fumes most likely are not healthy. Wipe up all cleaner before using the stove.

I have a three month old glass top oven. Pots made marks on it from day one and it also has brown stains, I have tried everything ( including rubbing the marks with a sugar cube that was recommended on a popular TV show)
Also as Joe & Susan said, the top is "foggy", surely in this day and age something will clean it?

Well I own a cleaning company in South Jersey and I must say that with all my expierience that I found Soft Scrub with Bleach works best on the flat top stove. Just put on the stained area and let stand for a few moments then with a soft non scratch sponge rub in small circles, then take a damp cloth and wipe away residue! Worked great for mine! Good Luck. We just got installed a Frigidaire black enamel flat top oven. I used it for the "first time" and cooked some eggs and bacon. When we were through cooking there was a round area where the pan sat which was discolored and looked horribly scratched. I took good look at bottom of pan and it has ridges and looks like copper is in the makeup of the pan. I used the ceramabryte that comes with the oven and buffed and buffed and used the razor some. It looks much better but there is still a "foggy" area in the middle of the burner... anyone have any ideas? I wonder if this material has gotten too far down in the glass top to every be removed? Any feedback much appreciated!

My husband was making maple syrup and it overflowed, does anyone know how to get it off of a flat stove w/o scratching it?. now it is hard and sticky
Editor's Note: Take a wash cloth and get it good and wet with hot water. Lay the washcloth over the stain. It should help melt the sugar. Basically it's like having hard candy stuck to your stove. If you just keep washing out the cloth and putting it back on the stain, it should come off.

I had a pan on my flat stove top that had a metal-type label stuck on the bottom. I didn't know it at the time, until I removed the pan after cooking. The metal piece is stuck to the top of the flat top--and it's not something that will easily scrape off. Does anyone have ideas of how I might be able to safely remove the metal piece? Thanks for any advice!

Hi,
Turn the burner on as low as it will go, then scrape with a heat proof spatula. It will take a while. It may take a razor blade or flat knife or scraper to get the last off it off but you will need to heat it up a little so it melts enough that you can get it off.

just make sure to watch out for fumes. Keep kids and pets (esp birds) out of the house anytime you're heating up oven cleaner. And of course use good ventilation for yourself in the area.

I just did that trick! I went back and read every reply from 2-11-2005 and did not see any tips! Has anyone come up with a solution? I removed the burner w/tongs and dropped it into hot water, when it was cool enough to hold, I scrubbed with a steel wool pad, no luck! Can anyone come up with an idea other than buying a new burner? Thanks in advance for any help
