Saving Money on Your Wedding Cake
By Robin If you have any more tips for saving money on a wedding cake, feel free to post them. Feedback About This Post:RE: Inexpensive "Blues Clues" Decorating IdeasThe dollar store has lots of "blue" supplies. blue paper plates, blue balloons, blue napkins, blue streamers, blue table clothe maybe, but there ya go for cheap 1 dollar each. Post by rosefroggie RE: Inexpensive "Blues Clues" Decorating IdeasLook online or at the dollar store for some cute Blues Clues coloring pages. Either you or your child (or both) can color them. You can purchase inexpensive mats(if you want) or just frame in inexpensive frames. Hey it might be cute if you colored the pictures and let your child color on the mat. Post by chriself RE: Inexpensive "Blues Clues" Decorating IdeasI suggest getting some baby blue construction paper and cutting "clue" paws for the ceiling and walls (you can stick them up with teachers goop.) You can even find a small chair at the thrift store and cover it in red fabric with black piping to make a big red chair in her size. Finally find a small metal mailbox at the hardware store and make a mailbox along with some laminated letters you have a whole set. Finally a giant post it board from office max on sale makes a great "clue book" or some laminated poster board with giant black shower rings ($2 at walmart) and dry erase markers allow you to wash them off and reuse. Post by boilermkrchck02 RE: Saving Money on Your Wedding CakeYour cake is so beautiful!!!!! What a creative mind you must have, I was so impressed,at how pretty it is. you did an incredible job!!! Laurie Post by spinwool saving money on a wedding cakeI used the cupcake tree design for my wedding cake. You can go to cupcaketree.com and see what I am talking about. I bought the stand and ordered the cupcakes from Sam's wholesale instead of a bakery. The total cost for the whole thing, including a top cake for us to save, was 65$ and it was beautiful. Post By janay maraist (Guest Post) RE: Saving Money on Your Wedding CakeI agree w/ Mary about having a small pretty cake for the bride/groom to cut if they wish, but then serve the guests from a large sheet cake kept in the kitchen. The guests wouldn't know the difference, cake is cake. This is what my sister & her husband did, they didn't want to pay lots-$$ for cake for their guests, the sheet cake was just as good & much cheaper & easier for staff to work with. The cake they cut was small, simply decorated w/ their colors & had their names on it. Nothing fancy, very nice! Post By Enter your name. Inexpensive Wedding Cake... I did a lot of research and calling to save money on my wedding. I almost had a heart attack when the first bakery called me back and told me it would be $1300 to serve cake for 350 people. This was not in our budget. I finally, after more then 30 calls, found a small family owned bakery. Post by ThriftyFun RE: Saving Money on Your Wedding CakeFor many smaller budget weddings I've done a medium sheet cake and in the left corner put just a small topper cake on pillars. It's pretty and the couple has a little top cake to cut. It's half the mess and serves the same purpose. Post by MamawKC RE: Saving Money on Your Wedding Cake
The saddest thing to me about wedding cake is all the waste. Look around at the next wedding you attend at at all the half-eaten or not-eaten cake lying around on tables. On the other hand, the appetizers seem to get devoured, and fast! Better to have tons of great appetizers! Post By Mary (Guest Post) RE: Saving Money on Your Wedding Cake
Several years ago I worked as a wedding hostess at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in Salt Lake City. One of my duties was to cut the wedding cake, so I saw all kinds. One of my favorites was a series of about five cakes all decorated differently, but in the same colors. Each was placed on a tall, antique cake plate and the total effect was gorgeous! Those particular cakes were professionally made, but I remember thinking at the time that it would not be hard to make such a set of cakes yourself. Post by Katie A. |
