I love your little hamster,he is so cute! I wish I had, but instead of me getting a hamster, I'm getting a Gerbil. Cool, isn't it?

I've had them both. I just got 2 gerbils and they are sooo much fun to watch. Hamsters are cool cause they will cuddle with you, but I wouldn't know about gerbils since I just get them, I havent gotten a chance to hold them. I think its all your own taste! If you decide gerbil, get two. they are sooo fun to watch! Good Luck!

I've never had a gerbil, but I have had 3 wonderful hamsters. I have never been bitten by them, and they only ever peed outside of their cage a few times when they were very young. once they get older they potty train themselves to only go in the cage. Also, all my hamsters, when you take them out during the day allow you to hold them while they go to sleep on you, and its the sweetest thing in the world.

Gerbils are cute, Hamsters are cute.
Gerbils are dayternal, Hamsters are nocternal. (Spelling?)
(Sleeps at night) (Sleeps during the day)
Gerbils run all around, Hamsters are cuddly.
Gerbils love being w/ other gerbils, Hamsters like being alone.
Hamsters need their cage cleaned out more often.
(5 hamster cage days = 3 gerbil cage weeks)
Gerbils are more likley to escape.
Hamsters are loving pets, Gerbils are SO fun to watch.
Had them both-like Gerbils WAY better. :D (all personal prefferance)

I have 2 gerbils. I will not put any animal, gerbil or hamster on the down side. I have had both

Fun to watch EXAMPLES: Whenever I clean the cage they make a new bed design, I love to make little amusement parks with stuff around the house.
Bond easily
Hamsters:
Fluffy and fun to pet
I liked to see them stuff their cheeks with food.
Don't aquire much atension
Will eat anything

I personally like hamsters better, sure gerbils are supposedly nicer and stuff, but they're not all like that, some hamsters are good and some are bad so it really is up to what animal you like best.

Who can say no to a hamster? Hamsters are adorable and gerbils are to fast. If I were you I would definitely get a loving hamster.

I don't if I should get hamsters or gerbils! I need a pet that gets get attached to me but it's not like I have every moment to spend with them. I am actually pretty busy over the week. I would really like for the gerbil/hamster to let me stroke it and hold it without biting a lot. Please help! I am leaning towards hamsters but I still am not completely sure.

I had my hamster called charlie for 4 months but he sadly died after my cat attacked him. Charlie never bite me and was lovable and loved to explore the house in his ball. After he died I bought two male gerbils and Ihave regretted it hugely. They don't like to be stroked like a hamster and they are not lovable. You can pick them up but not for long as they jump and scratch.
They are fun to watch and are sweet as they cuddle and play together but a hamster will get more attached to you and have more love to give. Even though they are nocturnal and can get up quite late they are there for you when you have finished a busy day and they love a cuddle.

I certainly recommend 2 (male) gerbils, the are much more fun than hamsters. My friend has a hamster and he said he doesn't want it anymore because it constantly urinates and he has to clean the cage every two or three days, and is no fun to watch. And it bites every time you try to pick it up! But I have two male gerbils and they never bite. And are a lot of fun, they hardly ever urinate so I only have to clean the cage every 2 or 3 WEEKS!

Get two gerbils. Why?
1. Gerbils are very cute, I cannot choose which is cuter, but that is opinion.
2. Gerbils are WAY more intelligent. You can teach a gerbil tricks; it is more difficult with hamsters.
3. Gerbils bit less often as hamsters. My hamster would bite me HARD every time I would clean it's cage.
4. Gerbils are up at night; just put them in a different room, that is fine! Plus, my two male gerbils make cute squeaks that put me to sleep easily.
5. My old hamster peed all over my stuffed animals when I was 8. I didn't like the fact my toys were full of hamster pee.
6. Hamsters are cute, but they SMELL terribly. I would barley go in the room where my two hamsters were. You can hardly smell Gerbils.
7. Gerbils are very entertaining. They make a new bed every time you clean their cage. Hamsters will just poop on their new toys.
8. If you give your gerbil a toilet paper tube, it is so cute to watch them climb all over it, go through it, watch your two gerbils run into each other and chew it to the center.
9. Gerbils are really fun and cute. They stand up every 5 seconds or so, and they are the cutest when they spin in a circle and take their little seed and munch it as their little eyes close as if they are in heaven.
10. Gerbils can have popcorn, rice krispies treats, cheerios, and all sorts of things. Hamsters mainly eat sunflower seeds.
11. Gerbils make a much better classroom pet. They don't get under stress easily so they won't bite the students.
If you like a pet with personality, get two gerbils of the same gender. If you would like to get bitten hard often, get a hamster.
This is my opinion, but the facts say gerbils are great pets, and they are not close to "trouble".

I have heard that gerbils have really deep bites as one bit right through my friends finger. That has put me off now and I'm not sure if I should get one. I have a hamster at the moment but it isn't very friendly and squeals when I pick him up. I did have one before that and he was really great he sat on your shoulder and watched t.v. So I would generally say that hamsters are better for me its just one hamster that i haven't bonded with. Can anyone help me on how I can make my hamster friendlier and a better pet for me?

Should I get a hamster or a gerbil? I had two gerbils and they died after 3 yrs. I want to get a new pet but I don't know which. Hamsters are cuter but i hear they bite really hard. Gerbils are more active than hamsters. Gerbils chew up everything and I want to get a cool cage with all of the tunnels in them. HELP!! please reply.

I'm getting two gerbils after our vacation (both boys) with the cost of the gerbils ($13.00 bucks each), the cage I might get them ($45.00 dollars), and other stuff that is recommended. It's going to to cost me a little over $100.00 dollars. Is it really worth it?

WHAT should I get a gerbil or a hamster? Hamsters are fat and kinda boring and a gerbil is kinda skinny and fast but entertaining. I'll get a gerbil. Do they sell it at petcetera and should I buy 2, one male and one female?

Go with the gerbil. I wouldn't say they are cuter but they bite and urinate less than hamsters. They are also more fun to watch and have nice tails. It's partially personal preference but I'd go with the gerbil.

Hamster are way cuter. I have one myself and they smell way better than gerbils!They hardly ever poop or wee, and they are so cute. They actually SLEEP at night and do not wake you up. My hamster Pickles sleeps in my brothers room and my brother is a light sleeper and it didn't wake him up once! So if you want to sleep at night GET A HAMSTER!

The answer is so so so so so obvious. Get a gerbil. they're cuter more energetic and love to be out. My gerbil nibbles on the cage when she wants to come out but seriously gerbils are a gillion times better than hamsters especially with their cute little eyes and they're a lot cheaper to look after.

Gerbils, they do not stink and the do not bite. Hamsters tend to be biters, but not gerbils. The one down side is they do not have cheek pouches to stuff like hamsters.

Hey, I think you should get a gerbil.
I don't have one, but there are 9 in my class and one hamster. The hamster makes to much noise, but the gerbils are quieter, they stink less pee less...

I need help. I have have 1 dwarf hamster and it is so cute and very active. I asked my parents if I could get another hamster or 2 gerbils and the said yes. i really can't choose! i think there both really cute. It would be a long hair teddy bear hamster if i got a hamster, and they are very sweet, but not very active. A gerbil would be a lot more active and not only at night but during the day too. So I don't know what I should get, but I'm leaning towards the gerbils.

get a gerbil their so cute! make sure you get 2 though because 1 will get lonely! but if you do not want to breed get 2 of the same gender! make sure you get the same type of gerbil or else they will fight and get territorial

I think gerbils are way cuter! I am a breeder I Have 7 gerbils right now and I have more arriving in about a 4 days. hamsters bite to much, and the pee a lot more than gerbils! hamster are also boring to watch, and they sleep a lot ,in another case gerbils just sleep during night and you can watch them for hours! so if you get a pet make sure its a gerbil!

Hamsters are wayyyyyyyy cuter. They hardly ever poop and they are curious and you can teach them how to climb up doll stairs. They'll eat out of your hand my sister used to lay our hamster on (her hand) its back and feed it "ice cream" (a rodent treat) (Sweet, gentle and caring)(/cute)

ok, GERBILS ARE WAY BETTER! i should know! i have have one for 6 years straight! with the proper care and attention, your gerbil will live a great and healthy life! i am going to be breeding in august, so i am doing a little research........ if you are a first time breeder, MAKE SURE THE MALE IS IN THE CAGE WITH THE FEMALE WHEN SHE HAS THE PUPS! (or a fully grown daughter from the last litter...) hamster do stink, but they are pretty cute..... they bite more than gerbils. every pet store keeper we've talked to said that gerbils are reccommended more than hamsters. GERBILS BABIES ARE SO CUTE! i can't wait to breed :)

i have had a hamster and loved it....but it died. now i was going to buy a new one but my dad wants me to get a gerbil(he grew up with them) and now i dont know what to . get a lazy sleepy hamster that stays up all night , or a peppy fast (a liitle too fast) run and make sounds alllllllll day gerbil? help

I would say gerbils. They have great personalitys. I believe they are the best pet. I love hamsters, don't get me wrong, but gerbils love attention. I would recomend that you not breed them. Because, unless you are lucky enough to be there when the pups come (ussualy early in the morning like 4 am.), you'd better remove the male from the tankk. As soon as mother's had the pups, he will mate her again. So I would get two females over males. Males may fight for territory. And I would sugest getting them from the same litter of pups. My two girls, Dixie and Daisy are sisters, and they are inseparable.

i like the gerbils, but we got in to something fast, my son got two and well we went on vacation and came back and we have 6 now, they are funny little things, and yes they do run alot, i just think its so cute how they lay with their mom, i would recommend it for kids, my 2 love watching them, they seem very friendly,
but we do have one that can't use his back legs but he moves around ok, so we let him be, he is special to us,

Hamsters DO NOT urinate constantly! Also may I add that hamsters make great & interesting pets too, and are generally easier to handle than a quick gerbil! Personally having kept both, I much prefer Hamsters over gerbils.
Also there are enough pets in this world, without creating more, there is NO need to breed them! Also a male and female are likely to be brother and sister if you haven't got them from reputable breeders and that is a recipe for diaster!

Ok... get two gerbils, but gerbil breeding is certainly not something to dabble in unless you are sure you know what you hope to genetically achieve, you have homes lined for young gerbils, and realise that unchecked you'll have hundreds of gerbils in under a year.
