To stop the itch from insect bites simply wet a bar of soap (any brand )and while it is wet, rub it on the bite.

My father made a paste from baking soda with a little water. Put on a washcloth or paper towel and apply to the bite. Works on mosquito or fire ant bites.

I just read this somewhere. I thought it was here on ThriftyFun, but maybe not. I haven't tried it yet, but everyone was raving about how well it worked. Put scotch tape over them. Some said wipe with ammonia first, others just the tape. Everyone said how wonderful and fast it was!

Someone posted this a short time ago: To take the itch out of mosquito bites, and make them go away within a few days - rub the bite with a small piece of cut onion a few times a day. The juice neutralizes the itch and helps heal the bite. The more often you apply, the sooner the bite disappears. Everyone who tries it is astounded! I've heard it may work on other insect bites, but have not tried it on anything other than mosquito bites. I love, love, love this website!

Ammonia works well for stings. A paste made with meat tenderizer and water can help take the itch out of some bug bites. Ice is always good.

Above all, make sure to clean them (periodically) with soap and water so you don't get an infection. If you have a spider bite, or other bite that really swells, or gets red and hot to the touch, or if you have a fever, or the site becomes VERY painful, it is time to "bite the bullet "and see a doctor. Infections are nothing to play with.

I have heard you can use hand sanitizer on bites and stings. It will clean as well as stop the itching.
