Sealing a Painted Formica Counter Top

I painted a Formica countertop and a professional painter told me that I could put a waterbased polyurethane on for a final finish. Any comments on this?

Yes! I used a water based top coat called polycrylic, by Minwax. I used 4 coats and then let the counter top cure and harden before using. It works and it looks great! I just clean it with gentle, non-abrasive cleaners! So far, so good!

Yes, he is correct. If you don't use a water based poly you will have terrible yellowing. Put several coats on for durability.
