Recycle Old Towels

About two months ago I went through my towels. I had some of my own which were old and some I had inherited. I had a lot, some of which were cheap and worn.

I zig zagged them in squares about 12 inches, so that when I cut them they were edged. They are brilliant for using as cleaning cloths and wiping down washed tiles or work surfaces, leaving them smear free.

Then I chuck them in the washer with the usual towel wash. There is always capacity in the towel wash, so it isn't extra cost there. My purchase of paper kitchen towel is now almost nil. If you acquire old towels, this is a great way to use them.

RE: Recycle Old Towels

My grandmother used to make small throw pillows out of her old towels. Now my daughter and I are doing the samething. Its fun to work on them together. We will decorate them with fabric paint, iron-ons and yarn. Its fun and a great bonding experience for both of us.

RE: Recycle Old Towels

I cut my old hand towels in half and the bath towels in fours. I use them in my kitchen, sometimes hemmed, sometimes not. My DH always goes to the kitchen drawer when he needs a rag for really dirty work, like washing the car or cleaning golf club heads. It's a habit I haven't been able to get him to break so I stopped buying nice towels for the kitchen. I suppose I could look at this as a money saver.

Old towels cut and hemmed, also make great napkins.

RE: Recycle Old Towels

I have tons of towels that are third generation. My grandmother passes her old towels to my parents, they pass theirs to me. By the time I get them they are pretty wore out. I use them also for cleaning instead of paper towels. I dont buy paper towels at all. I keep napkins from fast food places and along with the old towels I am covered for whatever I need.
