Nursing Home Beauty Pageant

Everyone's family has someone that's living in a nursing home. My mother-in-law's nursing home recently had a beauty pageant for the residents. They had their hair done, got to dress up with jewelery and make-up. It was a big event! The cafeteria was decorated with flowers and balloons, there was an announcer. Of course, there was a crown for the Beauty Queen, but all the contestants were given a small prize and a rose. What a difference it made in the morale at the nursing home.
The anticipation alone, gave them all something to look forward to. Self-confidence is always there, you just have to remember to bring it out for all to see.If any of you have a loved one in a nursing home, don't be shy, suggest a beauty pageant.

This is such a wonderful idea, and can be very uplifting for everyone. It's true all women like to be pampered and get all dressed up once in awhile. It's so very special to these ladies. How about having something like this for the men? I'm sure they would love it. My Grandmother lived in a nursing home until she passed away at the age of 96 and every Sunday she always had her hair done, put her favorite dress on with the jewelry and lipstick and her favorite perfume to go to the church services there. After she was bedridden and sick, she only put her lipstick and perfume on when she could. It just made her feel special.

I was confined to a nursing home for several months after a car wreck. Our Activities people were great, but if they ever had a beauty pageant I never knew about it. This is really a great idea and very uplifting! Thanks for sharing.

What a beautiful idea! I recently lost my Grandma who was in a nursing home. What I wouldn't give to have been able to do something like this for her! That is a great idea! Thank you for sharing that with us!

NOT everyone's family has someone in a nursing home. We took care of our grandmother when she needed help the same way that she took care of us when we were young.
We took her to see her friends and for activities at the senior center. She also greatly enjoyed simply being around our company and going with us to see friends as she was always invited along.

It doesn't matter how confused or frail a lady gets, she still loves to dress up and feel beautiful! At our Nursing Home, we have the Beauty Pageant every year and the winner gets to go to Atlanta and be in the state wide Ms Nursing Home Pageant. In February, we have a King & Queen. Everyone votes, staff, residents, and families.
At our Valentines Ball, the King & Queen are crowned and the Dining Room is decorated beautifully. We also have a Prom, where The Residents enjoy a limo ride through town before the Prom (donated by the local limo rental service) and they have a wonderful Prom with live music and dancing, yes even the ones in wheelchairs! We also have a "make up" day every week and all the ladies have their nails done too. It really makes them feel good about themselves.
A nursing home doesn't have to be gloomy!

One of the nursing homes where I live has a "Red Hat" group. From what I have heard, the ladies really get into that, too. It sounds like it would be a fun idea.

This is the most wonderful and uplifting thing EVER. Its so great that they was given a time to shine their best in such a gloomy time of life ( nursing home ). Is that your mother in the photo? Who ever it may be, is gorgeous. I am in awe still and cant fully express my love for this event.
