Oreo Turkeys

Oreo Turkeys
These are cute little turkeys made out of oreo cookies and candy pieces. They are even easy enough for young children to help make and look great on the holiday table.

Requires:

  • 2 Oreo Double Stuff cookies
  • 1 malted milk balls (like a whopper)
  • 4-6 candy corn

Directions:

5 minutes preparation time.

Take 1 oreo apart. This will be the base.

Place the whole oreo on its side on the base, so that it sticks to white of the oreo.

In front of the oreo on its side, place a malted-milk ball for the turkeys head.

Place candy corn, points down, in between the oreo cookie that is standing on it's side.

The Oreo Turkeys are a sweet Idea!

RE: Oreo Turkeys

I made these with my 4 year old to bring in to his pre-school class. He had a blast and they came out adorable. We used the double stuffed chocolate and peanut butter oreos for better coloring of the turkeys. We also added a tiny rolled up piece of red fruit-rollup to the beak for the turkey waddle (or whatever it's called).

My only caution is to assemble the candy corn into the back piece before sticking it to the base. We broke a few oreos when we tried to squeeze them back together. It also helped to set them in the refrigerator overnight because the frosting and cookie filling gets soft if you don't plan to serve right away. This was a really fun and festive kid's craft...oh and yummy too.

This recipe originated from Southern Living Magazine, November 1993 issue. I have a friend who still has the magazine!

RE: Oreo Turkeys

Cute idea, but what did you use for the eyes?

RE: Oreo Turkeys

how do you keep the candy corn attached to the whopper? and what do you use for the eyes? great idea, but information incomplete.

Editor's Note: Get a little tube of icing or make some chocolate icing and use that to "glue" on the candy corn and make the eyes.

RE: Oreo Turkeys

The eyes look like frosting to me, just little dots.

I would like to know what the eyes are as well. Are they raisins, chocolate chips. or what?
Very cute idea for turkey day.
Thank you
