Removing Build Up from Tea Kettle

To remove the buildup from the inside of a tea kettle, a friend told me this method.

Fill the tea kettle with lemon juice (bottle from juice section in grocery store ok). Put in enough juice to cover the buildup.

Leave it alone for some six hours, twirling the pot occasionally to swirl the juice.

Empty and wash clean.

Thank you for that tip of lemon juice. The method that I have been using for years is vinegar. You cover the build up 1/4 to 1/2 deep, then bring it to a boil for a minute and pour out and put fresh water in and bring to another boil and again pour out. This does a good job also.

Vinegar is a frugal natural room freshner (once the smell dissapears) and it removes mineral deposits. I fill my kettle or coffee pot with vinegar, heat it, then turn it off to sit for 2 hrs. Dispose of vinegar, it freshens your drains, then run clear water through your nice clean pot.

Linda

Friend tried vinegar and said it smelled up her kitchen, whereas lemon juice is relatively unscented.

Vinegar would do the same thing and is cheaper.
