Controlling Dandruff

Dandruff can often be controlled. Shampoo in cool water. Hot water strips the skin of natural oils that help control flaking, and so do alcohol-based styling products like mousse or gel.

RE: Controlling Dandruff

You can control flaky dry skin with your methods, but true dandruff comes from inside. Excess oil on the scalp solidifies and coats the scalp. When you comb, scratch, wash, etc. the solidified oil is kicked up and causes the flakes associated with dandruff. It can be controlled with special shampoos, but it's definitely not dry skin. I changed my diet years ago to mostly vegetarian fare and was surprised that my dandruff seemed to subside. Good luck!
