Keeping Grocery Bags from Falling in Trash Cans

I like to use plastic grocery bags as trash liners for the small trash cans in my house but they have a way of falling inside the can which is annoying. I have found that by sticking two plastic coat hooks, one on either side of the wastebasket, upside down, you can use the hooks to hold the handles of the grocery bags and voila - bags that are cheap and secure! The hooks can be put on with double sided foam tape or Command strip hooks that come with their own removable adhesive.

We do this only we put a large thick rubber band around the garbage can to keep it from falling in

I have a 13 gallon size trash can in my kitchen that I use regular trash bags in. But due to the weight of the trash, the bag usually slipped into the can. I cut off the thick elastic waist band of a skirt I didn't want and put the band around the bag that was hanging over the sides. The bags never slip inside the can anymore.

Hi Tony, This is a neat idea. However, the handle of the bag can be pulled out slightly & tie a knot in it. This will keep it from sliding down in the can but still be loose enough to remove. (and no hooks to buy & install).
