Auto Insurance Discounts

Make sure you are getting all of the discounts you are entitled to, on your auto insurance. Most companies give discounts for anti-lock brakes, daytime running lights, airbags, etc. Some discounts you may not be aware of -- annual mileage of less than a certain number (often 8,000 per year), even teenage drivers who maintain honor roll grades!

Of course, if you install an alarm system on your car, that will get you a discount. Call and ask -- some insurance companies seem to have an unspoken policy of not mentioning these discounts unless you specifically ask about them.

Make sure you are taking advantage of any discounts that are available to you from your car insurance company. Discounts may be available for military personnel, low mileage drivers, students with good grades and many other criteria. Be sure to ask what discounts are available, they should ask you a list of questions and will provide you with the discounts that apply.

Hi. When I worked and temporarily had to take the railroad to work (was loaned into the city) I asked my insurance agent if I was entitled to a discount because I wasn't driving to work. Sure enough, I was entitled to a discount while I was using the railroad for that period of time.

Also, when I retired, I called him up and told him I had retired, and again, I was entitled to discount rates. When I turned 50, they automatically cut my rates again.

Best thing to do, if you think something may be entitled to a discount, is just to ask. You may be surprised at what you didn't think would qualify, would for a discounted rate.
