Use Bread to Absorb Meatloaf Grease

I have found that one way to prevent meat loaf fats from settling on the bottom of your loaf pan is to place a piece of bread on the bottom. The meat loaf is not only easier to remove, but once the bread is removed your loaf is a little less fat-laden.

I make mine on top of raw potato slices. they absorb grease, and keep the loaf off the pan and crisps the bottom at the same time.

Thanks for that information. Never thought of doing that. Will certainly use your bread idea the next time I make meat loaf.

That's also a god way to hide the fact that you "let" a piece or two of bread go stale...you know, waste not, want not.
