Mashed tofu works too. Just smash it to the consistency of cottage cheese.

My Mom makes her lasagna with only mozzarella cheese and it tastes yummy!

My mom hates ricotta so we have always used cottage cheese. You can mix it up and use whatever you like. Ricotta and cottage cheese have a lot of liquid in them so if you switch out to something else you might want to accommodate for that, maybe with milk or something.

I never cared for cottage cheese or ricotta so I use velveeta and mozarella cheeses in my lasagna. My family and friends love it.

You can also mix Philadelphia cream cheese with the cottage cheese.

No you can use cottage cheese in place of Ricotta cheese. I've used cottage cheese in my lasagna for years and it's delicious. You can't tell the difference in the taste.
