Cats do not like peeing on newspaper. My cat use to pee on my carpet,in the same spot under my end table in my living room.i had the carpet cleaned then I spread news paper on that are. I then focused on keeping the litter box extra clean because they hate a smelly box. The news paper, not a good look, but she went back to using her litter box.

I have two male cats, both neutered, indoor cats. The Alpha cat (who has declared himself the Boss) orders his brother, Pumpkin, around and makes it clear who is in charge; both are 14. Pumpkin started peeing on the living room carpet in both of our houses - first the old house and now the new one. Since he gets 'ordered around' in most circumstances, I believe he had claimed the carpet as his very own 'territory' as there is little else he can claim; he gets pushed off our bed regularly, gets boxed on his ears by his brother, etc. We shut up the living room where he cannot enter; now he's started peeing in a certain place in the garage, where he always has access to.
Better there than in a bedroom! Seems like he has simply changed the location of his 'territory.' I don't see a solution to this & we will be replacing the living room carpet! (This is a behavioral problem, not a health one according to the vet. tho we have had other cats who peed on the carpet to let us know they were ill. It stopped when they got well.)

I have a boy cat and a girl cat and they are both a year old. But, my girl cat, Lily, keeps peeing on my bed. I'm not there when she does it, but we know it's her because three times she has done this and one time we caught her while doing it. We took her to the vet the second time she did this, (the time we caught her), and had her checked for urinary tract infections, diabetes,etc. So, the vet said it is probably behavioral because their litterbox is always clean and my boy cat always goes to the bathroom in it. What do I do?

I don't understand why my cat is peeing on my bed and when she does its on me. I've tried everything keeping litter clean. I'm getting frustrated now. My partner wants to get rid but I don't wanna give up on her. If anyone got any ideas let me know? Thanks

I know this sound strange, but oxi clean really works! It will cut the smell. mix it in warm water and saturate the rug/floor, wait a while (couple of hours)then soak it up with paper towels you can throw away. For older cats, look at the back claws, sometimes they will be thick....this is a sign of hyperthyroid in older cats, if so don't get pills from the vet, get "cream" in a tube and put it on the inside of the ear (watch to not get on your hands, use a glove)....

I have no idea what to do my to new kittens they are peeing on the floor. Someone said that I should put tinfoil where the cat is doing this. I just want to confirm that. They are just kittens so they are just learning how to use the litter box.

I need help my cat is pee on bags of clothes but started peeing on my couches now pees on the beds and comforters and clean clothes folded on the couches what's up? I've cleaned with everything and had professional cleaning I love her and took her to the vet moved litter boxes and change litter back and forth don't get it? Please I don't want to get rid of her inspite of her pee she's fun and mean and just great help me?

You can also put a sheet of aluminum foil on the floor in the spot. Cats don't like to pee on aluminum foil. It's shiny and noisy. Maybe her reflection in the foil would shame her into putting her pee in the box!

My cat is a nightmare she is completely healthy, she is an indoor cat I also have a dog and she keeps peeing at the bottom of the stairs near her litter tray, she does it out of pure spite and knows it's wrong, as she scampers when you catch her doing it. She runs up the stairs. I can almost hear her laughing at me while I'm cleaning it. I have tried everything yet she keeps doing it. I love her dearly but she is trying my patience!

You might also want to check the cat box. Sometimes that's their way of telling you that it needs to be cleaned. Atleast that is for mine. Also previous house owner's with pets might let them go where they want and that causes a major problem. No matter what you do, urine will never dry and soaks straight through to the foundation and stains it there as well.

I have been having the same problem. The vet told us that it may be that she is lonely, because the majority of the time when she does it, we are gone. His solution was to leave the TV or radio on when we leave so she has a sense of someone being there. We haven't tried it yet, but hopefully we will see results!

Hi, my cat has peed on our stairs or sprayed as he's a boy and it stinks. I tried vinegar and washing up liquid with disinfectant and nothing. It is depressing us, any help tips?

You could get her nails trim by a professional, they do such a good job that the nails are actually all round and the cat can't do any damage.

You really need to use a product especially made to take away the urine smell, water and soap will not do it. Actually often time soap makes it worst. (same for the bed).
Now, once you have used the product, I would also put something on the actual spot she uses, either sticking paper (like the one used to cover books) or pepper, or something she likes to sleep on. Like paper (if the case) or a plastic bag. Anything to take her mind off of the fact that she/he pees there.
But first and foremost you need to get a pee analysis from the vet, that will tell you if she/he has an infection, and yes, some cats with infection will pee in the same spot over and over again.
For anyone's whose cat is using a place or something to do their claw, just cover that area with sticky paper, like I stated above, no cat will do their claws on this. It will look kind of weird for awhile but then it should be okay. There is also some kind of repellent product but I've never used them.
If none of this works, try speaking to your vet, they might have good ideas.

My cat keeps peeing in the same place. She has always been a clean cat and has never done this before until recently. We have a dog too, but the cat is definately the boss.
I am pregnant and i understand that cats/dogs have a sixth sense and can feel this... do you think this has anything to do with it?

My cat was doing the samething. I took him to the Vet and he had a bladder infection and was constipated. The Vet put him on antibiotics and CatLax for the other problem. It really did the trick. Regardless of the reason, (or the sixth sense!), once the smell is there she will return to the same spot. You either have to remove the smell completely or make the spot so repellent she won't go back there. Enzyme type detergent may help remove traces of the urine or some sort of preparation from the vet is often mentioned by the US contributors. I feel if this was a health problem there would be more weeing indoors rather than the one spot, (but I'm not a vet!). Is she otherwise well? Can you pinpoint the time she first used the spot? Was she locked in? Was the litter tray dirty? If so its almost certainly behavioural rather than ill health. If behavioural you need to make this spot unattractive, firstly by removing as much smell as possible but, as their sense of smell is so sensitive, this may not work. The area can be made unattractive by sprinkling a bit of dried pepper there - her fine sense of smell will make her avoid the area before she actually 'gets a nose full' so to speak. Another method is to watch her until you catch her 'in the act' and then spray her with a short sharp burst from a water pistol. This won't hurt her but she will get a fright which she remembers when she goes near the spot again. You must do it at the exact time she is having a wee though so the connection is made. My cat does the same thing and there is nothing physically wrong with her. There is no way for me to see her when she to squirt her. I have cleaned the spot several times. She is an old cat in good health. She also is an indoor cat. She has damaged my carpet with her nails and urine. I don't know what to do. I want to re-carpet my condo but this cat is so distructive. Just to mention cat has taken up residency on brand new futon. Blessed it 4 times now. Used spray n wash smells great cat likes it to,maybe the vet for a check or an exorcisms. Not sure generally not happy.By Cynthia

I just got a kitten, she is an indoor cat. One morning she just peed on our bed in the morning. I had just taken her to the vet a couple days before. They said she is totally healthy. I keep cleaning her litter box almost everyday. She has never not used her litter box before. She keeps peeing in the same spot on the bed every morning at the same time everyday.
