Getting Men to Help with the Chores

My man is the epitome of a armchair quarterback, news and weather expert, or anything that has to do with TV. He takes wonderful care of the yard and the garage but he believes that the house is my job. NOT SO. But if I ask him to spend a mere ten minutes dusting, "just ten minutes ha, I can handle that". OK Then could you please dust for the full ten minutes. It worked. He can cover a lot in ten minutes. He doesn't do it the way I'd like, but I will NEVER complain, or my plan is dust in the wind.

Don't complain the first several times. But after a while, at the beginning of a ten-minute dusting blitz, make a suggestion of some kind. I'm not sure what it is you don't like, so use these examples with a grain of salt. "Did you know the whisk broom is good for getting dust off the top of books (with no dusting spray)?" "I try to periodically get into the back of this section, which is easier if you just lift this." Then once you can tell whether he understands your hint, leave him alone, without watching him dust.

Of course you won't be able to help checking up on him. After a few times, thank him for any extra efforts.

Another strategy is to give a choice between two chores and ask which he likes better. Another strategy is to find chores you can both work on together (like doing dishes used to be before dishwashers). Oh, like making beds.

Also ask him how he used to do various chores he's done before. He may have some tips for you.
