Getting Help with a Prescription

I filled out papers months ago for my mother to receive Fosamax from Merck. She is 84 has to take fosamax, and lives strictly on Social security. How can I get something done for her? Jan

Also you can try www.helpingpatients.org I would try to call Merck and find out the status of her request. Merck is usually good about getting meds out quickly. If you cannot get the help you need yourself, call your mom's doctor and see if someone in the office can advocate for you to the drug company. Good Luck

Ask your mom's doctor for some help. When my mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, her chemo pills would have been $1,000 a month, she had no insurance. Her dr. told her that since she was on Social Security that she could qualify for assistance. Before we left the office they had her approved and all she was going to have to pay was shipping. Unfortunately, mom refused treatment but it was nice to know that there was help out there for her.

RE: Getting Help with a Prescription

I have been telling people of the site that i found several years ago and i get about 8 prescriptions free for my mom. Now she has the medicare deal where she will get $600.00's of help this year. Also our state is giving her another $600.00. I signed her with the aarp site to get her first $600.00. But you can get free meds at this site. Also you can print the forms off. I fill them out and take to the doctor he gives perscp. and signs the forms. Try...http://www.needymeds.com Good luck to all...

RE: Getting Help with a Prescription

My daughter had to have antibotics this past summer that were something like $932.00 per rx for a 28 day supply, her dr gave her some papers to fill out for the company that makes the drug . She had to find a place that would honor the drug co, which was a big fight the first time, but finally got it, all she had to pay was $5.00, and was on this med 3 different times. A few months later, she got a letter from the drug co. that she has a large credit now with the drug co. she now only pays LESS than a dollar for all of her rx's when she needs one ! Talk to your Mom's dr about this . I am sure that he can help out, If not call the drug co. and ask them if they have patient assistance .

RE: Getting Help with a Prescription

I don't know what state you live in but here in Illinois we have a program called Circuit Breaker or Senior Care and depending on your income you can get their card and get your medicine for $4.00 or generic for $1.00 until you spend $1,700.00, this is not widely publishe so several don't know about it but where ever you live should have a department of aging and they should be able to help you.

Go the Merck's website and look for the patient assistant. I believe the website is

I receive Hyzaar free of charge because of this program. Good luck!

Check with your local Salvation Army-Community Medication Assistance Program, they will apply to the drug companies for her.
