Frugally Humidify Your Home in the Winter

To combat dry indoor air (without the expense of running a room humidifier), place old containers of water in or near your heat vents (if you have forced air heat). Do NOT do this if you have crawling / walking babies in the home! Also, even if you use your dryer to dry your laundry, consider drying towels, rags, etc by hanging in the house. Both of these measures will add back some humidity to the air.

You can buy vent boxes that attach to your dryer vent.. Vent inside the home for extra moist air. Save on heat and humidfiying The box at the bottom catches stray lint that your dryer lint catcher misses. the smell is wonderful as well 3 for one savings

What we do in the winter is vent our dryer inside and cover the hose with a pantyhose to catch any lint. We generally do all our drying in the evening and it has helped so much.
