There's usually a plug in a new garbage disposal that has to be removed if your disposal goes to a dishwasher, did you remove it?

Sometimes the little drain holes at the bottom of the dishwasher get clogged with bits of food and yes, broken glass. Carefully remove and debris and see if that helps.

Call a plumber to clean out your pipes if the water is backing up into the sink when the dishwasher empties. They will know what to do.
But, always run the disposal BEFORE turning on the dishwasher beause sometimes a very small residue will cause this backing up.
Make sure you have HOT water coming out of the faucet when you press the "on" button on the dishwasher, otherwise you'll be washing the dishes in cold water (a wise plumber gave me this info) - so basically, the setting that enables you to set a timed wash on your dishes is a WASTE of time because all you get out of it is a cold, unsanitary wash.

Are you talking about water squirting up from the drain inside the sink or the little doohickey (don't know what it's called - LOL) next to your sink faucet draining water in to the sink ??? If it's the doohickey there's nothing to worry about because that's what it's supposed to do :-)

Look in the very bottom of the dish washer. there should be a basket that you can empty. Be careful because there may be broken glass there. After you remove the basket look into the tubing you should make sure that is clear. Also try using compressed air from the sink to the dishwasher, if the air flow is good then you might have a plumbing problem.
