Yorkie Puppy Will Only Go Potty On Paper Inside

I have a female yorkie, she is 5 months old. I got her when she was 10 weeks old and she immediately was paper trained. Everyday since she was 10 weeks I would take her outside when she woke up to go pee and poop. I have two other yorkies and they went with her. She would hold it until we came back inside.

This is getting very frustrating. Even if I take her for a walk she will not go until we come back in the house. I have tried it all, newspaper outside, saving her pee and poop and putting it outside for her to smell. And by the way since I have had her she has NEVER gone outside. Any help would be wonderful.

I had a pup with the same problem many years aqo. She would play outside and come 'flying' in to use the paper. I had the paper in a middle room of my house. I desided to move the paper slowly through the house and on to the porch. From the porch we moved to the yard just beyond the porch stairs. I gave her time to adjust to each move. I started to move the papers across the yard to the spot I wanded her to 'go'. Each move was not a far move and she adjusted to each one. When I got the paper to where I wanted her to go, I left it there to biodegrate. THAT was her spot. I had to go through two rooms and across the porch but it was well worth it. She was not in any truma and followed the 'paper trail'. It may take a while but it worked for me. I hope this helps.

When I had puppies I of course resorted to paper Once they used the paper, I little by little moved it closer to the door. Eventually I removed it, this then in turn made the puppies to to the door letting me know they had to go. I opened the door and out they went. I got this tip from the vet, it worked like you wouldn't believe. No more inside house piddles. It won't be any harm to try.

Make it worth her while big time!. Firstly take her out by herself if that is possible. Secondly wait and wait until she does it outside. If you have to take her back in with out doing anything, then take her out again before she does it inside ( you should know how long before she does it inside). Everytime you take her outside make sure you have small pieces of her most delectable treat in your hand. You will eventually catch her going outside ( please persevere to begin with!) and then you feed her lots of her little pieces of treats one at a time and praise her. You will eventually be able to phase this out. After the first time you catch her, keep taking her outside every hour or so and definitely after meals( more often than you do now) and repeat the treats and praise when she does something. Another extra thing you could try is to crate her and take her out from the crate until she does something using the aforementioned method, however the crate will have to be used as a place where she sleeps in order for this to work. Dogs will not soil where they sleep so doing it this way she only has one choice of where to go.

I had the exact same problem. And I live in an apartment, so I know leaving the dog outside for hours is not always an option. My dog refused to go outside until I began taking her to the dog park. After a few times doing that, she started copying the other dogs and going to the grass at the sides. Of course, she picks up habits from other dogs really easily. And she would drink a lot because she was so thirsty from running around. If there are no dog parks around and you don't have a backyard, try taking her to a regular park on a weekend or when you have time, and make sure to bring water and run around with her. Sorry there are no quick answers, just patience and common sense.

I bred yorkies for years and, other than one little male, had great success "litter training" them. I would use shredded paper in a regular litter box rather than just laying out newspapers. The little male NEVER trained to anything-he went where he wanted, when he wanted. His whole attitude was "what difference does it make? It's just a little bit...(his name by the way)" . He passed at 11 yrs old, never changing his ways. I learned to live w/ it, thankful everyday I hadn't chosen great danes! Anyway, perhaps you could start w/ the box, moving it outside once he's using it consistently as the next step in housebreaking.

You have my sympthy - I had a similar problem with one of my dogs. you said that you tried taking news papers outside.

Were they clean or used(dirty) ones ? I finally got my dog to go outside by putting out some of the used news papers from the house and leaving them and him out in the yard (fenced yard) for a couple of hours two days in a row,
on the third day - went outside - had a few accidents for a little while - then thank goodness - got the message - no more inside.
