Post Phone Number on Garage Sale Signs

When having a yard or garage sale, it helps to list a phone number with your advertising in case folks need directions, etc. It is a good idea to temporarily change the recording on your cell phone voicemail or answering machine to a recording of driving directions so you won't have to answer the phone every few minutes. Your potential customers will get good directions from the recording and other callers can still leave a message!

Real bad idea. Think safety first!

I would never dream of putting a phone number on a garage sale sign! There will be dealers driving by at dawn anyway . You also do not want calls scoping out whether or not you are home AFTER the sale. You never know who came to your sale and what else they were looking at beside your yard sale merchandise. Of course they can use your address and do an Internet search to get your phone number. Just don't make things too easy for the dishonest crowd.

RE: Post Phone Number on Garage Sale Signs

I think if you post your phone number, you are setting yourself up for more trouble than you could make on a couple customers. I think it is better to just give your exact address...if they have problems figuring out where you are, they can look you up on mapquest.

Just MY .02 worth!

You can post free yard sale announcements on craigslist, and can add a link to mapquest so people can see on a map where you are located. They can also email you for directions -without you having to give out personal information like your phone number or email address.
