Six Uses for Nail Polish Besides Your Nails

6 things you can do with nail polish besides paint your nails.
  1. Secure A Screw: Tighten loose screws on cabinets or pot handles by brushing some clear nail polish on screw threads. Insert the screw and let dry before using again.
  2. Stop Tarnish: Keep costume jewelry from turning black with a coat of clear polish.
  3. Seal An Envelope: Brush polish on the underside of the flap.
  4. Mend A Screen: Stop a small hole from getting any bigger by brushing a little clear nail polish over the spot.
  5. Smooth A Hanger: Don't throw out hangers, just brush polish over the rough edges on wooden or plastic hangers.
  6. Stop A Pantyhose Run: Put a small run with clear nail polish, this will stop the run until you can replace them.

I use nail polish to paint features on rag dolls. I bought black and blue on purpose and had some dark pink. It hasn't washed out yet.

You can use it to paint over the bottom of shaving cream can if you leave it in the shower. It stops it from rusting and leaving a ring on your tub. You can also waterproof matches by dipping the flammable head in the clear polish. It takes a little time, but if you think you might need some on a camping trip or water trip, it's worth it.

I have used nail polish to: paint plastic buttons to upgrade them - paint eyeglass frame to change color - Metallic polish to brighten up old costume jewelry, etc.
Be careful of the fumes, tho!

Take a pretty rock or shell that you or a child found at the beach and paint with clear polish. They always seem to look better wet, this keeps them this way forever!

I painted the hardware of a wooden toilet seat with clear nair polish. It keeps the hardware from rusting or turning green.

My personal favorite is to use clear nail polish to secure buttons after sewing them on. This is especially handy when sewing buttons onto stuffed toys since they are impossible to sew back on when they fall off. A good safety feature too.
