Water Marks on Velvet

Does anyone know how to remove water marks from good velvet? The dry cleaner had no luck. Rain splattered onto a vintage velvet coat and in spots, nap is flat. Any ideas?

RE: Water Marks on Velvet

Hi Marissa, I don't know about the water spots, and if this will help or not, but I know a trick to make the nap stand up again. place the velvet face down on a piece of thick terry cloth, like a towel for example. (You could probably use on cordoroy also.) Iron on the back side on whatever is the highest temperature the fabric can tolerate. I would use steam, but check on a hidden seam first to see if it won't leave more water marks...LOL.
