Keeping Garage Cool In The Summer

Our garage becomes very hot in the summer (it's 100 degrees F both indoors and outside) in spite of the fact that there is a gap between the garage door and the wall and door top (like most). I told my DH he had to invent something to keep the air circulating. Keeping the bottom of the door open a few inches doesn't help much because heat rises. In the mean time - any suggestions?

Hi, We live in the Desert. My husband installed a window swamp cooler and attached it to a timer so it goes on and off every day automatically. This helps a lot. Loretta

Do you have an attic hatch in your garage? If you do, you could try leaving it open. That's what my relatives in TX do. Lord knows they need help keeping anything and everything cool there in the summer! Good luck!

Two things-- if you don't have a spin ventilator on the roof-- they help so very much. If you do have a spinner-- then open your attic door just a bit and the heat will rise. If you don't have a attic door in the garage ceiling-- see if DH could make an opening and cover it with a square vent like homes use for air conditioning in the ceiling. You'll get the same movement of hot air. Good luck
