Rag Rugs for Draft Stoppers

Instead of spending money on cute little draft stoppers to place at the bottom of your doors, make your own. You can roll up a scatter rug for each door, and secure it with string or yarn. I have a collection of "rag" rugs that I use for this purpose. They are perfect, and easy to roll. When the draft stoppers are no longer needed, I cut the strings, wash the rugs, and save them for next year.

Great Idea!

Another is to make a "Sand Snake". You simply sew a tube about 1" longer than the bottom of your door, and about 4" (with a seam allowence for turning), leaving one end sewn and one end open. This gives you a tube about 3.25" round, or about 1.75" on each side. You don't want it too big or the sand will be too heavy.

When securing the ends, it's sometimes best to sew one end and then "tie" the other securely, so you can change the substance inside if you want to or it gets wet, etc.

Fill with sand, cat litter, or anything too small to let air through. For a nice holiday treat, put some drops of pine oil, some spices or some potpouri/shaved candle, or crushed incense in with the sand/litter.

Fill it up to about 4" or 6" from the end, and secure the open end shut.

When in use, it shifts down to the space and shape you need. When not, you simply hang it from the door knob or a coat rack and the lack of filler will let the center "space" hang.
