Parvo Help NeededMarQue from West Valley City, Utah Feedback About This Post:RE: Parvo Help Needed
Parvo is tough. And lots of people will have anecdotal advice. Bottom line is that it is very deadly and all you can do is provide supportive therapy and wait. If you catch it early, then better. First, it's a virus, but as it attacks, then bacteria start wreaking havoc on the intestinal system. Because the intestinal/digestive area is so compromised, oral administrations just don't cut it. Ideally: IV fluids, injected antibiotics, anti-nausea medication, and (due to virus) Tamiflu (suspension) started early can have an impact (but expensive, and now with Swine flu, almost entirely unavailable). Post by tutzauer RE: Parvo Help NeededMy leo passed away Sunday morning. I think he was already weak from the Kennel. We tried just about everything. I'll buy another dog again someday just not from this Humane Society. At least he is now without pain, not throwing up and no vomitting. Post by phileaglesfan RE: Parvo Help Needed
I picked up our 4 month old lab/australian sheppard mix from the local Humane Society on Tuesday night. It was confirmed today (Friday) that he has parvo but we caught it early. We are doing the home care. I'm just praying that it works. They gave him an IV bag that we give him twice a day, antibiotics and anti nausea medicine. I could have taken him back to the Humane Society but they would have just put him down. Post by phileaglesfan RE: Parvo Help Needed
Hi my name is Savanna! I recently lost my 1 1/2 yr old chihuahua mimi to parvo like 1 day ago I 2 older chi one and I have to puppies that mimi gave birth to 3 moths ago that are now sick. I need help I've started giving them pedilyte and carnation milk and broth and pepto. I really wanna make sure I'm giving them the right dosage and if there anything else I need to give them! It was hard to loose my mimi and I haven't slept well since! I love my dogs. I have no kids so they are like my children! I'm not giving up and I hope they wont either. So again please help me! Post by SLEDEZMA14 RE: Parvo Help NeededI'm happy to say that Minnie is finally eating and drinking! the pedialyte worked! I want to thank everyone for the info posted on here. Minnies life was saved. Post by blackminnie RE: Parvo Help Needed
My puppy minnie (3 months) is dying of parvo. She is a black lab mix. we took her to the vet and gave her iv fluids. she doesn't throw up or have diarrhea anymore. shes not eating or drinking. she is very tired and we force fed her pedialyte for a few days. we are very worried and if she isn't better by Sunday we have to give her back to the shelter and they will put her to sleep! Please HELP! we don't want to lose her and we cant get the tamiflu becuz the vet isnt here today or tomorrow and they are closed on Sundays. we are gonna get pepto Post by blackminnie RE: Parvo Help Needed
My puppy Chocolate had caught Parvo on April 8 & he wasn't eating, he was throwing up, which wasn't like him. So my mother and I looked on this website, and we bought Pedialite, Pepto Bismol & got Antibiotics from my niece who was recently sick preferably Amoxicillin. I gave him the Pepto Bismol first to prevent him from vomiting & diarrhea. Then, I gave him the Pedialite every hour, I mean every single hour so that he wouldn't get dehydrated & the antibiotics every 8 hours. He was back to himself in the next 4 days. He's up and running, and now he's eating, and not throwing up anymore. So anyone whose dog has Parvo, just please get your dog some pedialite, its only $4 dollars, Pepto Bismol and find away to get the Antibiotics. I mean your dog isn't going to get better right away, but if you make sure its getting its medicine, it'll pull through, and please don't give up. Post by Darry$$$ RE: Parvo Help Needed
Hi there, just wanted to give an update on Nyxie. I'm very happy to say that she is eating and drinking on her own and today is pretty much back to her old self, playing and etc. Who says you can not save your puppy at home? This shows what lots of love and determination can do! Post by nyxies_mama RE: Parvo Help Needed
I want to thank everyone on this website! My 4 month old pit is still alive today because of the advice I got from you all. The raw eggs is the trick! Along with the pedialyte, pepto, and gatorade. I had done everything except the eggs and I know night before last that if I hadn't found this website Nyxie would be dead. Today she is drinking on her own, I'm still giving her the eggs because she won't eat on her own. But she is following me around the house, jumping up on the couch and even let out a bark trying to play with my husband. Post by nyxies_mama RE: Parvo Help NeededMy 4 month old pit bull Nyxie got very sick 4 days ago, I took her to the vet he sent me home with antibiotics and a thick liquid called STAT, he said to help replace protein and nutrients. Anyway, I haven't been asleep trying to save her round the clock. About 3 hours ago she decided to take a drink of water by herself and was even walking around, an hour ago it all came up, the first vomit was clear, of course. The second had blood in it, this is the first time she has vomited blood. Now she is back to being lethargic and breathing is shallow the vet doesn't come in for 3 more hours, PLEASE if anyone reads this Please help me. My email is dreamride24 AT yahoo.com. Please help me save this puppy. Post by nyxies_mama RE: Parvo Help Needed
This is to everybody who just swore you couldn't cure a puppy with parvo without hospitalization, the home treatment does work me and my fiancee had 4 puppies all 6 months old and we beat the odds unfortunately one died because we didn't catch it in time her name was Athena. the other three boss, baby, and kujo all pulled through in amazing time. One thing that is extremely important is you cant give up on your dog(s) and dont stop showing them attention because if you do they are going to give up too. Post by madeforeachother97 RE: Parvo Help NeededMy dog just got parvo but I don't have any money to take him to the vet and I love that dog so much I don't wont to loose my only friend so please help me. Post By Nicole (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help Needed
My dogs had provo, I went to my local vet spent $500.00 on the puppy who caught it and then gave it to the mother and the son contracted parvo. I went to a local pharmacy and brought gatorde and pedlite lots of it and eye droppers. I could not afford the vet bill this help a lot you have to force the liquids to them even if they refuse and if they throw it back up keep giving it to them. They will eventually get strong, do not give up! Post By Annette (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help NeededWhat is the bleach treatment? A friend and I were talking about it and I was looking for it, can't find it anywhere anymore. It was a small amount of bleach with gatorade or syrup or maybe alternating them both???? Post By Josey (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help NeededTry Emertrol for vomiting you can buy it at the drug store. Try chicken noodle soup in an eye dropper just the broth. Pedialite in an eye dropper. I had spent $2000 at a Vet and a Walgreen's Pharmacist told me try the pedialite and it saved my dog. Post By Rita (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help NeededMy toy poodle Nemo got parvo. I took him 2 the vet and he gave him clavamox and centrine with pedialyte. He's not playful and has not had diarrhea yet. Please help me save him he weighs 4 lbs. I'm gonna make him a tea with pedialyte and peppermint. Gonna buy pepto I'm in desperate need of help. Post by nemo08 RE: Parvo Help NeededGive her pedialyte not Gatorade because there are more electrolytes in it than Gatorade. That is what she needs right now, and make her drink it, give it to her as much as possible i saved my dogs life she had it real bad. Post By crystal (Guest Post) We Won the Fight of Parvo
We won the fight of Parvo on 1 out of 2 Pomeranian pups. $9647.00 dollars later vet treated them in hospital but on weekends when closed sent them home where I was administering IV Fluids ever 2 to 4 hours and vet refused to use some home remedies like slippery elm given to help prevent vomiting acidophilus and colloidal silver chicken broth and rice or liver broth. My 18 week old beagle/basset mix has had diarrhea and been throwing up and has been a lot less hyper than normal but we have had all of his shots done. I think my cocker puppy has parvo. He had reddish diarrhea and is very tired looking. What can I give him to cure it? Please help, I only got him a couple of days ago. Post By joel (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help NeededMy son and I decided to expand our familty by adopting 2 10 week old sister puppies. One of my puppies (Kloey) began throwing up uncontrollably last Wednesday and I got her in to see a vet right away at Banfield Pet Hospital. He told me that she had an obstruction and after $500 worth of xrays and bloodwork recommended $2400 worth of exploritory surgery, I rushed her to the emergency hospital hoping for a better price or a referral to somebody that would work out a payment arrangement. I was surprised when the vet looked at her xrays and blood work, and then came in with 1 last test. When he returned to tell me he would never do exploritory surgery on a puppy with Parvo, I was shocked and dismayed. He said that she not only tested positive but had an "very high positive". Having just spent $500 on unnecessary tests at Banfield Pet Hospital in San Bernardino, CA, I couldn't afford to hospitalize her and couldn't take her home to treat since I had her seemingly healthy sister there. I had to make the heartbreaking decision to let her go. It wasn't until Saturday that her sister (karly) began showing the same symptoms. When I contacted Banfield to let them know that unless obstruction is contagious they were completely wrong and took advantage of my desire to save my loved one, the basic response that I got was...sorry for your luck. I am now trying to treat my 2nd puppy at home since I have spent $900 in the last week in vet bills. I firmly believe that Banfield Pet Hospital was completely underhanded and has no concern for the safety and well being of any animals that they may treat. I am a single mother that struggles as it is and to have someone take advantage of my heartbreak, I'm disgusted. I can only hope that we can, with our love and medication, pull Karly through. I am determined that Parvo will not win this battle Post by stacy1979 RE: Parvo Help NeededI had a puppy that began throwing up and wouldn't eat or drink last Wednesday. I got her in at the very first appt available at Banfield Veterinary Hospital in San Bernardino, CA. The vet there ran a bunch of tests--xrays, blood work--and told me my puppy had an obstruction and needs $2400 worth of surgery. I left there with my puppy and took her to the emergency clinic with xrays and bloodwork in hand hoping for a cheaper price. The vet looked at the test results and xrays, then ran 1 more test. When he walked in and said he wouldn't ever do exploritory surgery on my puppy, I was shocked and dismayed. Turns out she only needed a $40 Parvo test because she had a very high positive for Parvo. I couldn't afford $250-$450 a day to treat her since Banfield had just charged me $500 in unneccessary tests but I couldn't treat her at home because I didn't want to chance infecting her seemingly healthy sister so I had her put down. Her sister began to get sick on Saturday and now I'm being forced to treat her at home because of the vet that didn't run the right tests. I'm with the comment regarding the price of veterinary care. I'm a single mother with a house payment due in 2 weeks that has just spent $900 in a week trying to save the lives of members of our family. Banfield's response it basically, sorry for your luck. When I was a kid we had about 5 puppies that got parvo. We were very poor, we didn't even have the money to get them shots so we couldn't go to a vet. They were almost dead so my dad gave them antibiotics that I got when I had a bad cold and pepto-bismol about 3 times a day. 4 of them lived. Post by SAD Angel Parvo took my baby Bo
My puppy, Bocephus, just died of Parvo two days ago. I adopted him September 6, parvo set in on the 11th and he passed 4 days later on the 15th. He had parvo when I adopted him. My heart is completely broken. At the first sign I rushed him to the vet and we started IV treatments and home care. He was up and down. At one point I thought he would make it but Sunday he took a turn for the worse. I feel an overwhelming guilt for not taking him to the ER that day. Post By Amanda McNeal (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help NeededWe lost our pitt puppy to parvo. He got sick on friday 8-1-08. We took him to the vet and he tested neg for parvo but our vet kept, and treated him and he died on Monday morning 8-4-08. Post By Susan (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help NeededSeriously I worked at two different vets as a tech. and we never saved a parvo puppy. I found some stuff called "parvogaurd" I had to syringe feed it to me friend's puppy on deaths door and give it SQ fluids (under his skin) every hour or so for two days and on the third day he started pulling thru! I was 7mo pregnant and it was had to deal with but it's worth it because now he's full grown and a very healthy pretty dog! Post By Enter your name. (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help NeededNO gatorade doesn't help. I went through this! I syringed Pediatite every 20 minutes. My vet wanted to put her down. I went against their wishes and took her home and nursed her back! After a full 24 hrs of pedalite she came around a bit, but they need protein. So what I did was Bought carnation instant Breakfast, instead of milk. I mixed with pedalite, and syringed. On the third day she was able to stand and was more alert. I then boiled rice and lean chicken and fed her. She loved it. I kept her on a bland diet for a week or so. She came around! After Parvo she has green poop....so I took it to the vet to be analyzed. She had Coccidia I was worried again. BUT the antibotic cleared it up. THANK GOD I this is helpful to you. BEST of luck! I hope your pups gets well! Post By stacey (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help NeededI have a small terrior mix pup with Parvo. I give her IV fluids under the skin & nutrical & then I give her chamomile & peppermint herbal tea caffeine free mixed with pedialite. All you can do is find the one treatment that works for your pup & stay with them. Dehydration and secondary infections is going to be your main concern. Post By Elisabeth Scott. (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help NeededI'm reading everyones entries. I have a 7 month old lab with parvo. Vet bills do get to cost a lot. Go to your vet and have him show you how give your puppies the fluids and get the Tamiflu. It's not really all that much. I don't have a lot of money either but you can try to save your puppy and you to can do it the right way (ps my doctor worked out a payment arrangement with me.) I'm just waiting hopefully my pup will also get better! Post By shawna (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help Needed
My little (4 lbs) chihuaua had parvo. I took her to the vet and was told she had parvo. They would keep her for 3 days for 700-800 and nobody would be there at night, or I could take her home for 250 with meds. So they gave me an iv bag with the needles/ meds for the vomiting/ antibiotics/and id dog food and syringes. I was told that parvo makes them throw up and poop their intestinal lining till they hemorrhage. Post by rac631 RE: Parvo Help Needed
my 9 week lab had all the symtoms of parvo, did not eat for 5 days, gave him herbs form a nutritionist ( charchoal and catnip) had to give it through the rectum so it could be absorb,,,, pedilite every hour... even if he threw up......on the 6 day he pulled through gave him penniciline and animal electrolyte, chicken broth with baby oatmeal,, he is fully recovering, Thank God and a whole lot of love. Post by rlugo RE: Parvo Help NeededYes it helps,i would give her a few minutes after shes done throwing up ,then continue. Thats what i'm doing with my puppy ,only my vet said to give mine pedialyte { the stuff for kids} ,i give my puppy it every 20 minutes. After she throws it up i just wait a few minutes and give her 3/4 of a cup again, because they can dehydrate as they just threw up what you had just gave them ,usually mine keeps it down the second time though. Post by bee37 RE: Parvo Help NeededMaybe you should try going to the store get her favorite treats and animal vitamins blend it up and feed it to her. He vomited on Sat, Sunday and Monday morning but not anymore. I really need help I don't want my cute pug to go away. Post By manuel (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help NeededWe just lost a dog to what could have been Parvo... He displayed all the classic symptoms, and it was heartbreaking to watch him die. We couldn't afford a vet that wanted us to pay, IN FULL, up front. That's ludicrous. I wouldn't even have paid them to kill my dog - that seems unnatural and quite mean to me. To those who think that people who can't afford to go to the vet shouldn't have pets - maybe you should think that the Vet shouldn't be so darn pricey. When you have to struggle to make ends meet anyway, and you find a scared stray puppy and you have a heart and a home to offer - I would hope (that even if you couldn't afford Vet visits on a regular basis to treat a sickness) that you would at least find some way to care for the dog. I disagree with people who say that "if you can't afford it, you shouldn't have it." What if this was your child that sudden contracted a really terrible sickness? What if you were a single mom and you couldn't afford the treatment for your child? What are you supposed to do then? Kill your child? I think that's quite illegal. I think that sort of putting the pet to "sleep" is quite a cop-out. I miss Koga, terribly, and he has only been gone for 4hrs. I tried some of the suggestions on this page, but nothing could help my puppy. And don't knock me for not being able to afford the vet. I can't even afford the doctor for myself - but at least I could have worked out a payment plan with the vet (HAD THE VET BEEN WILLING).... and maybe my pup would still be here on Earth with me...but Koga'll be okay - and I really want to hear some demands for better access to cheaper veterinarian care. I'm serious about this. THIS NEEDS TO STOP - when is it going to be too much?? To not offer payment plans or anything of the like is ridiculous.... PEOPLE and PETS are dying from ALL KINDS of illnesses they cannot be treated for because they cannot afford to "PAY UP FRONT." Where are people supposed to take their pets if it's a serious emergency?? I believe Koga died because I couldn't afford any treatment or care for him, and I'm truly upset that I could not work out a payment plan. Post By KogaRomaRoo (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help Needed
I just got my dog through parvo. Heres what I did. Go to your local grocery store and pick up pepto bismol, pedilite ( I got the unflavored) and dog vitamins. Give your dog the pepto first, followed by the pedilite, then vitamins. The pepto coats the stomach, as it does for humans, the pedialite has electrolytes, sodium, potassium and calories. Things your dog loses during throwing up etc. Thats what its for when you give it to your kids. Post By Andi (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help NeededI recently had the same problem. I gave my dogs Parents Choice pediatric electrolytes, found in the baby section at your local grocery, instead of Gatoraid (Gatoraid helps with hydration but does not replace the electrolytes lost in dogs from vomiting and diarrhea). Just to be safe, we took our dog to the vet and it cost $150. If you can't afford that, then see if you can pay it out, some vets will let you. My dog was better within a day. The vet may have to put fluids back in your dog and keep them over night. Also some people give there dogs Pepto Bismol, which coats the linen in the intestine that the virus attacks. That is what causes the bleeding anyways, but too much Pepto could cause microtumors in some dogs. If you use this method, use a low dosage and give it to them before they eat and wait about 30 minutes. chicken noodle soup is usually the best thing to feed them because chicken broth is full of nutrition but you may have to use a syringe. Don't over feed because the dogs intestine are sore and you don't want your dog to constantly have diarrhea. Also every time they puke or poop, make sure you rehydrate them with the Pedilyte because it also contains vitamins and other minerals that your dog loses during vomiting and diarrhea. You can only do this for a few days and if your dog has bleeding, you can only do this for a day because otherwise your dog could die. Let me explain, the virus is tearing away the protective lining and causing them to bleed out and if too much blood is lost, more blood has to be replaced. People, get your dog a veterinarian administered parvo shot. You can call ahead of time and go pick it up. It is cheaper then having to watch your pets suffer. It is painful to you and your dog. We just got 2 St. Bernard/ Pitbull mix puppie, Moose & Snickers. They are 12 weeks 3 days old today. Last week Thursday Snickers started puking and having VERY foul runny poop. Upon her routine weekly vet visit for a broken leg ( yes I know, this poor little pup has been through a lot already), she had developed a rash under her cast and needed to stay the night for antibiotic treatment w/o her cast, and they could monitor her better there. Post By Kimberly (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help NeededI took my puppy who is 3 months to the vet and found out that she has parvo. The vet told me it would cost roughly from $770- $883 to hospitalize her and I cant afford that! I would be so lost without her because my husband got her for me because he is deploying to Iraq and I would need a companion. I'm so distraught! Should I still try the three day treatment or chalk it up as a loss? Post By julia (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help Needed
I just wanted to let everyone know that Sophie survived the parvo. She was at the hospital for 3 full days and is doing great. Because I bought her from the vet I took her back to when she started acting like parvo, he gave a discount and it only cost around $250.00 to save her. Now I have invested around $350.00 in a pound puppy but she is worth much more, she has bonded with my grandson and Sophie has a great family. I'd say, spoiled rotten. I can not advise anyone on what to do or what is the best cure for parvo, but Sophie was a fighter and I think we caught it early enough for her to survive. I lost one puppy last Friday afternoon due to a false negative on a Parvo test. All the signs were there. Severe bloody stools as well. Poor Princess Sarah died. She has five siblings that are ill now. Three pups are tested positive for Parvo. I have been giving them IV's & shots, corn syrup (a teaspoon by mouth), Olive oil (3 teaspoons full to two tablespoons, twice daily, to keep their stomach & esophagus coated & to prevent vomiting), A half cup of Gatorade ever one hour (only Gatorade no water), they still drink on their own & are eating home cooked meals of chicken, rice, vegetables plus plain chicken, yogurt, & four raw eggs a day for protein. Absolutely no salt. I ordered Keflex & ParvoGuard but am waiting on them. I am also giving them Echinacea twice daily. We have 4 dogs. 2 pups and their mom and dad. This past Friday I noticed one of our puppies Boomer had diarrhea. We assumed it was something he ate because he eats EVERYTHING and decided to keep an eye on him. Saturday he stopped eating and was very lethargic. We called the vet who said it was normal for dogs to have these symptoms from something they ate told us to watch him for a couple days to see if he gets better because he was still drinking a little. Give her pedialyte non flavored it works better. My puppy was just diagnosed as well and he has pulled through. Try 1.5 cc of Penicillin and Parvo Guard that is the only thing that got my puppy "Tucker" through. It hasn't been tested by the FDA but I swear it works. My dog had parvo the last six days. I took her to the vet on the 3rd day. And the vet had nothing good to tell me about the out come. So, i tried many of these remedies. But the one that actually helped my dog (the vet said) was injections of gatorade in the anal. She did awesome. and pulled threw. 1.5cc of gatorade anal every 20 to 30 minutes. Post By amie (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help NeededUnfortunately our little (11 months old) Shih Tzu) didn't make it. As soon as we saw the symptoms (vomiting, bloody and bad smelling stools, lose of appetite etc.), we took her to the vet. On Saturday (4 days after treatment) we thought she was going to make it. But during the night she was crying and she had 3 epileptic crisis. On the 3rd crisis she died just in front of our eyes, without being able to help her. My girlfriend tried to help her and she gave her a bite just before passing away. It was so horrible. She survived the intestinal form of the virus, but not the heart-parvo effects. All I can say, if your puppy has Parvo take them to the vet! Don't try to take care of them at home to save money because your pup will only have a 30% chance of living! If taken to a vet they have a 80%-90& chance of surviving! There is a big difference in percentage there people. It really is not about the money here... its a matter of "Do you love your pet that much?" Post By Cassie @ Tru Blu Kennels (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help NeededYesterday one of my pompoodles died of parvo. I had taken her to the vet Thurs., she was vomiting. He said she looked ok and sent her home Fri morn she had pooped a lot of blood and did not move. I took her to the vet, but it was too late they put her to sleep. My other 2 puppies got vaccinated yesterday. I had not had them vaccinated. They were fine until this morning. They have been vomiting and have diarrhea. They weigh 2.11 & 2.5 pounds I've been giving them pedialyte also bought a med at the vet called gastromate canine igy plus gel that the vet recommended. It is supposed to help with the virus. Ok I am getting pedilyte in Lola and now I read that you could over hydrate. How much liquid should I make sure a 13 pound dog has and can I feel ok if she keeps it down. Should I try bleach, or the tea and if this is a worm thing how should I proceed if you aren't sure? She is a 3 month border terrier, but she thinks she is a mutt. Post By Regina and Lola (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help Neededi had 3 chihuahuas and they all got parvo. all of them passed except one. i am now struggling with my rotty. i found that if they make it through the first couple of days, they are headed in a good direction. Post By angel. (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help NeededHELP!!! This is the third day of Parvo for my Lola. She is Pit-Lab mixed. I took her to the vet and could not afford to leave her there for a week. I have giving her pedialyte and pepto. Occasionally I give her Immodium, like the vet told me. Her stool is very bad. She has bloody bowel movement at least once or twice a day. I have got her to the point that she is not vomiting as much. I am very stressed and the mess is horrible. Last night I thought that she was going to die and I woke up and she was still alive. She seems to do better during the day then at night. It is crazy. Am I doing the right thing or am I just wasting money and time. I have heard many people say that they have had puppies that survivied and I just want to know when you can look to see improvement if any. It is very strange to me, because I vaccinated her and she still got this. Help, I am very tired and stressed. Post By Crystle (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help Needed
Treatment for parvo, find a good vet, if you can't afford the care there, get the Sub-q fluids (lactate ringer), and a couple of antibotics from the vet, also get your vet to prescribe tamiflu, it is new, most vets do not know about it...most are having a good success rate. These meds would not run a large bill for treatment, but you have to treat on a regular bases...you can't just give it once a day, Fluid has to be given alot under the skin(sub-q), NOT WATER as I read someone said. People state things they do not know anything about...and don't understand that someone will read these postings and try it, and think they are going to save their puppy. Clorox given to a puppy....I would never think of this...Clorox is toxic if ingested, might not kill a puppy at first, but I can tell you from washing my hands with clorox and water diluted, my hands are burned with blisters...so before you think it's safe to ingest, think again, it's not safe. My dog Cooper got parvo after my dads friend came over with it on his shoes (his dog had it and just recovered a few days ago) my dog started showing symptoms Monday morning but the rest of the day he was still hyper and had a normal attitude. Post By Beth (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help NeededI just found out today that my dog has this horrible virus, and I have took in all of your information and I think that we will make it through this. I just started giving my dog, Kaos, his first dosage of gatorade and ice and he kept it down. He is a pit and is about 10 months, and he really hasn't had diarrhea, moreso vomiting for him. But we have been to the vet, they gave him the antibiotics to help control the vomiting and they want me to bring him back in tomorrow to start the IV process, but I believe that I will ask him about the Tamiflu and I will still give my baby the IV treatment and we will see how it goes from there. Thank you all for all of the helpful advise and, of course, if you can afford it take them to the vet immediately. But not everyone can afford this kind of bill, and for the one lady who said we should "act ethically", even when we have children and they get sick, yea we know we have to take them to the hospital, but we don't even know how we are going to pay that bill. The only difference between the hospital and a vet is that a hospital HAS to accept you, the vet doesn't. If you don't have the money upfront, your pet does not get seen, PERIOD! The hospital CAN"T refuse patrons service, the vet CAN!!! I wish everyone the best of luck and I will try to keep you updated on the progress of my baby, Kaos. acrawford AT emailaccount.com 6/25/07 Post By ACrawford (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help Needed

TAMIFLU SAVED MY PUPPY Post by mshoney1 RE: Parvo Help NeededHello....I have a sevin month old pitbull who was dignosed with Parvo yesterday. They gave him the injections and ive been giving him the meds they gave me but Im still really worried. Ive been reading about different things to kill the Parvo but not sure if anything is good to mix with the meds. He hasnt pooped at all but throws up like bile....yellowish color fluids every now and then....Whats your best advise? Post By Kendra_5638@yahoo.com. (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help Needed
Tamiflu. I recommend it the INSTANT you think you might have a dog with parvo. It works much better if caught before symptoms develop. If you have multiple dogs, get them all on Tamiflu immediately EVEN IF there are no symptoms. The main thing is hydration. If you are not able to be with your dog ALL day to force liquids, then you MUST go to a vet. At the bare minimum, request your vet tap the pup with an IV catheter and ask to administer the IV yourself. Post By BigPuppyFamily (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help Needed
All I can say is that there is a lot of great information about parvo at www.HerbalPetsOnline.com Post by HerbalPets RE: Parvo Help NeededI thought I would put my 2 cents worth. Lastnight my little cocker pup of 8 mths old showed signs of parvo. Bloody stools, foul odor, and so listless. She would drink though, but refused food. This pup has always "bounced off the walls" But lastnight all she did was just lay there. I gave her a small dose of amodium AD., and put the recommened bleach in her water since she was constantly drinking I just put the bleach in her water bowl which during the course of the night she drank it all. Well I am happy to report she is bouncing off the walls this morning again!! I would never think that her bad habit of running like a mad dog all over would make me as happy as it has .. I will now go out and bleach out the whole yard and her kennel. I just want to thank this site and all the suggestions. I know she had at least the beginnings of parvo beacause it the odor of the stools you will never forget. As I went through this about 15 years ago with another pup I had and the vet pulled her through that time. I keep my dogs updated with all thier shots, deworming and vet checks so was surprised she had gotten parvo. I know it's best to keep up with all thier shots but once in a while even updated on shots will not prevent them from parvo. I am not saying that not going to the vet is good at all. Sometimes some of us just cannot afford the high bills that comes with treating the virus. And believe me there are no vets around here who will give you a discount . I am taking my pup to the vet today just to have her checked out. Post By Mel (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help Needed
I just purchased a yorkie poo puppy on the 23rd of this month. She vomited twice that night and her stools were formed but soft. She then became ill again on Tuesday I rushed her into the emergency vet clinc for help. They gave her antibotics and IV fluids under the skin. Wednesday I took her to the vet and they found parasites in her stools she didn't do a parvo test because she didn't look like a parvo puppy. They gave her antibotics and sent us home. On Sunday she started showing the true signs of Parvo blood in the stools and vomiting. Monday morning I rushed her to the vet and she tested positive for Parvo. She was immediately put on IV's with fluids and antibotics. She has never had a temp through the whole thing. She is still vomiting and isn't wanting to eat yet. She is down to 1 pound she only weighed 2 pounds when I got her. She did have one set of puppy shots with the parvo vaccine. When should I expect her to turn around? When will I know that she is out of the risk if death?? Hi! I had posted a few days ago about my Boxer Angus. He is doing a bit better. I followed the advice posted by Brenda on 01/26/2007. I have been using Baby Formula, Gatorade, water etc. Today he is more alert and moving around a bit more. He still has a little diarreha. I tried the Pepto but it didn't agree with him so I called my vet and he told me to try the Kaopectic Syrup. That seemed to work a bit better. He still won't eat anything. I did water some gravy down and give that to him and he did drink it. He does take fluids willingly. I will keep everyone posted on how Angus is doing! :) If anyone has any other tips for me or just wants to chat about parvo with their dog or even just needs someone to talk to feel free to e-mail me! Thanks again for all the help. This site is awesome! Post By Alicia (Guest Post) PARVO DEATHSThe true factor not ever mentioned here is that parvo lives outside, in the ground. The most common thing I here is if one dog dies, they get another and mysteriously these dogs are getting it also. Yes, Treat the yard, all dog dishes and the pet sleeping areas often, and for at least a year before getting another sweet innocent puppy. PLEASE? Post By Mel (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help NeededI had two pups with parvo. The one that was kept at the vet on IV and continuous antibiotic survived. The one I tried to treat at home did not. I would never ever try to home treat a pup once it's begun throwing up. If you add 20 drops of eichenacia/goldenseal tincture to the mix every three hours it may help, but if the dog won't stop throwing up, it belongs at the vet on IV. Post By Enter your name. ---> BLEACH - When I read the post... it seems to me they were talking about using the bleach to CLEAN with outside... (not give it to the dog)... Bleach is about the best cleaner around. It kills more bacteria & virus's than just about anything else out there (even Hepatitis C & AIDS). Bleach should ALWAYS be used in a WELL VENTILATED area! Post by Cyinda RE: Parvo Help Neededi did the bleach treatment, as did many other people, and they had positive results. As for the bleach working with aids...i would have to say that if i had the virius i would try the bleach on myself, if your fighting a loosing battle, what will it hurt? expecially if others have had positive results. Post By leslie (Guest Post) RE: Bleach Remedy
Of course Bleach will work to kill the parvovirus. Isn't it also proven to kill the AIDs virus? Could be mistaken on this one, but I believe it is. Why then, don't we treat humans with bleach? BECAUSE ITS TOXIC. Ever notice if you even INHALE a lot of bleach it makes you dizzy and stuff? Post By Brenda (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help NeededPLEASE SOME ONE HELP ME I CANT AFFORD TO PUT MY 4 MONTH OLD PUPPY IN THE HOSPITAL....RIGHT NOW I AM GIVING HER PEDIALYTE AND JUST STARTED PEPTO TODAY...THIS IS THE THIRD DAY...SHE HASNT THROWN UP IN A COUPLE HOURS FOR THE FIRST TIME....LASTNIGHT SHE THREW UP NONE STOP ALMOST...SHE WOULDNT HOLD ANYTHING DOWN AT ALL...I HOPE THE PEPTO IS WORKING...SHE IS WEAK BUT WILL GET UP WHEN SHE WANTS TO POOP OR TO VOMIT....PLEASE HELP ME I DONT WASNT TO LOSE MY PRINCESS....SHE IS THE SWEETEST ALWAYS PLAYFUL AND GIVING KISSES CONSTANTLY...NOW SHE WONT EVEN STICK HER TONGUE OUT!!! Post By Lil Princess (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help Neededas i said in my previous responce, the bleach therapy does sound inhumaine..but at the same time, what did they do back in the days that they didnt have meds? My vet turned me away at the door, he didnt want to mess with parvo, it was like the plague..he gave me iv meds, and pain killers, and stomach settlers, and antibiotics..all that money and time, and the dog died..i heard the bleach remedy from an old hunter..and i tried it years ago, and it did work, i hear more people say that they had better luck with the bleach then to go with the vets remedys, as it states, this is just helpful information, i would never tell someone to do something they were uncomfortable with..but when your at that point of, ive tried everything else and failed, why not? there is bleach in our toothpaste..and several other items we use..im not saying dump the bottle down the dogs throat, u use very little. but you make your own decision, talk to the others on here that have tried it..they have had success stories as well. sorry to those i have upset.. i am not a vet, just someone that was turned away by one. I agree with mamanature on this one! Post By Enter your name. (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help Neededyes, you definately want to keep the puppy hydrated, fluids are a definate as you probably wont get the pup to eat, you want to keep its strength up for the battle so if its still drinking, try protien shakes, it will help the dog out when it no longer will eat. If you have read the other feedback articles, i recommend the bleach treatment..it sounds inhumaine but at the same time, what other options do you have? i tried it for mine, but he was too far gone, it was a little to late when i administerd the treatment..good luck, and just keep the fluids moving!! Post By lfallenangel143@yahoo.com (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help NeededMy puppy just got parvo any home remedies that I have read really work???? Trying the pedialyte right now with some bactrim email me at allura_wa AT yahoo.com Post By April (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help Neededto let you all know that my puppy firecracker made it threw... the first couple days were not really bad but by the fourth she was getting worse then came the six day when i thought i was going to actually lose her since she wouldn't respond or even lift her head or wag her tail. For seven days i sat next to her I started out every 30 minutes giving her gatorade. Didn't sleep much in 7 days. But then i went to every 15 minutes of 3 cc. I would alternate gatorade with pedialyte... I think she liked the watermelon better then anything. I have to admit i did try the bleach mixtureon the 6th day. I did dilute it more then what i read. and i mixed it with pedialyte instead of water. I was reading on a couple websites that it was the same as cleaning water. I also started giving 2cc of gatorade anal every 45 minutes And to let you know i started the bleach and 2cc gatorade anal at 11pm on thursday and friday at 9 am she jumped up onto my lap. By 6pm friday she was eating a little bit. Saturday morning was a different story she scarfed down her food. the vet gave no hope for her when i took her in on the fourth day, but i can say either it was a lot of praying or the gatorade, pedialyte, bleach mixture worked. to let you all know i was totally against the bleach thing but on thursday i knew if i did at least try it i would hate myself for not doing anything. she had a fever and wasn't responding so i knew that by morning i probably was going to be left with nothing. Do not do this if your not comfortable with it and if you have not read about it. I dont recommend it to everyone. it was my last chance at trying something. And i am the one who would have to deal with it the outcome. Frankly i cant say if it worked or not the bleach i mean. all i know is i have a healthy puppy who still needs to get down the potty training deal... I wish you all the best and hope your puppy gets threw it. Post By marque (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help Needed
if the pup is still responding and not getting any worse, by all means keep feeding it the gatorade, i would even try protien shakes if the pup will allow it, you want to keep as much nutrition in him as possible, because it gets worse before it gets better..feed it whatever it will drink..because it could come to a point where he wont drink anything, and he'll need what he's already got in him.. Post By neiko (Guest Post) RE: Parvo Help NeededDoes parvoguard really work? I had to puppies die of parvo back to back.
