You can also make your own customized pegs using the shrinky dink plastic from Michaels {or even the website itself sells the plastic for a great price}. http://www.shrinkydinks.com/
You could even copy each players pix using a copier and just cut them down to a peg point BEFORE shrinking and each person will have their own. {no more fights between the kids!} {be sure you buy the version of the plastic that you can run through your copier, read the descriptions on the website}
You could also use jacks, those fancy toothpicks with the colored cellophane on them. Different colored cellophane for each player...think outside the box! There are lots of different kinds of picks in fancy gourmet food stores but I think the shrinky dinks will last forever vs the other choices.

I am manufacturing a game with 1/4" pegboard. It has a website that you can find if you search checkers, probably way down on the search results. I will be happy to sell you pegs. I don't think they would allow me to tell you the site on this site.

I use golf tee's as well. They work great. You can purchase a few cheap bottles of nail polish and paint the tips various colors so you can tell your pieces from the other players.

The restaurant chain Cracker Barrel has these games on all their tables and they use wooden golf tees.

What about meat skewers that the butcher uses to make rolled ,stuffed stuff-about the thickness of a lollipop stick. You can also buy lollipop sticks where they have cake decor stuff but they are usually cardboard.

Check the craft stores. Or, if there is a commercial game with the pieces that would work for you, contact the company and ask to buy some pieces. They will usually send them to you (if a few) or sell to you.

If the holes are really small, you could use Lite Brite pegs. They probably sell them or you could order them from the company via the internet.

Go to the hardware store and purchase the right diameter size of a wooden dowel...paint the pieces either the same color or different colors as needed. Works in a pinch if you loose a piece also.
