I second the idea of using Barkeepers Friend. It is also much safer to use than Comet. I even use it on my smooth top electric range.

I also have a white porcelain sink and when it gets the black stains from pots and pans I use Bar Keepers Friend as well. It is truly the most amazing product. A friend of mine gets charcoal stains all over her white sink as her husband often cooks outside and then brings the pot in (he's from another country) - Bar Keeper's Friend takes it all off.

The works sold at dollar stores it is strong! Can't be mixed with other chemicals just pull stopper up and put in your sink it is the tub one but any of them work! I use it for stains in coffee mugs and even on white clothes better then bleach by far!
