I had a huge problem with the Fleas!
Here is what we recently did and amazingly its worked and is new on the market. Ask your vet about it.
Our new vet told us about the once a month pill "Comfortis" and it worked on our beloved house dog. I do not know if they have one for cats but for our dog it has worked. The vet says the fleas bite the dog they die within 30 minutes of biting the dog. Now this took a couple of days to see any results as they have to bite her. Good news is my hubby and I have not felt any jump on us recently. We know they will still come in on her and likely drop off in carpet but we still put down carpet treatment and vacuum up frequenlty. It has made a big difference in our lives for the good, she is happier and sleeps better as well. I hope that any one who is having a huge problem to give this some consideration and maybe you can regarin control and then go off of it as time passes.

I used sevin dust, buy it in Walmart for the best price. It is not harmful to humans and pets. I put it on all the furniture, carpets, bed (stripped), just about everywhere and left it on for 6 hours. Vacuumed and then repeated every other day for 10 days. Relief for about 4 days and then saw them again, so I bug bombed every other day. I also washed any clothes left out.
I also treated the car. Seemed that I carried them into the car without knowing. I used a liquid spray on the front steps and about a foot before them.
You have to get the eggs, and new baby fleas or you will always have them. I live in Bradenton, Fl.

I have currently having the same problem! It is literally driving me insane! I have 4 cats and noticed a few months ago that they had fleas. By the time I realized it they had already been on everything in our house like the sofas, bed, area rugs, chairs, etc. I freaked out and washed everything. I then bathed all of them with flea shampoo and then applied Frontline spray and the topical drops. We still have fleas and it seems like even worse now. Me and my kids are getting bitten.
I seem to be getting the worse out of it. My legs are all scarred up pretty bad and now I noticed flea bites on my FACE! EEKK! I called an exterminating service and explained the problem...they explained the procedure they use... they said they spray around the floors etc... but they never mentioned the sofas and beds. I explained that our home is all tiles and just a few area rugs. So mainly the problem is getting them out of our furniture! They quoted me a rate of almost $300 and she said they most likely don't spray the furniture. So I don't see what the point is of spending money we don't have if they are not even going to spray the areas that need it the most like our furniture. The frontline didn't work.
I went and purchased Borax from walmart cause I kept hearing people mention that. I was wondering if that night lite and pans of water thing really works? I read it in someone else's post. I have tried everything. Now I feel bad cause my poor kitties are going nuts itching and now I am seeing patches of scabs on them from them scratching till it bleeds.
=( I also see my 1 year old with bites on her legs and arms. =( I want to cry. I have bathed these cats several times and spent almost $200 on frontline for them and nothing is working!

The DIY network shows sprinkling salt on your carpets and vacuuming often. Sprinkle, leave a few hours(overnight) and vacuum. Don't know if it works though!

Just to let every one know the exterminator came again yesterday to do second spray on yard. He felt so bad for us he is coming again today to spray the house for free, we have been vacuuming and doing the pans of water every night and getting lots of fleas. I have lived in fl most of my life I knew it was going to be difficult when the flea medication for the dog didn't work. Anyway thanks for all the help. Janet

Sorry to bother you with another posting, but I just remembered something. When I worked, there was a problem with fleas because they came to our building on someone who worked there. So there could be a "carrier" living in your home. If the fleas are killed in your house, but not where you work or go to school I don't know what you can do. It may be best to contact a government official for advice. At least it should be free.

I am thinking the exterminator isnt killing the flea eggs. Yes, you need to vacuum them up and seal them in a plastic bag before they hatch. I"d consult another exterminator. Maybe the area around the outside of your house needs to be sprayed too. Fleas live in the grass.
I just read the previous message. I guess it is possible that you could have fleas and lice. OMG.
Good luck. Dont be too hard on yourself. This isnt a reflection on your housekeeping abilities. lol

Have u always lived in florida? because u have no winter the fleas are notorious there, they do not die off so are always around. people bring them inside too not just animals. i heard from a friend who lives there and doesnt even own a dog that the night-lite trick and vacuuming are the way to go.

You need to vacuum every day and after each vacuuming, remove the bag and seal it up in another plastic bag, such as grocery store bag, and take it outside to the trash immediately. We had a flea problem and were paying exterminator to come. He told me it would take up to 14 days, and to vacuum each day and get rid of the bag because the eggs hatched in the vacuum bag and jumped back out in the house. When I started vacuuming and removing the bag, the fleas started disappearring. I found it better to spend the money on the vac bags than be tortured by the fleas.

I used flea powder, like the stuff you put on a dog, and shake it all over the carpet, like carpet powder, leave it on for a while, then vacuum up. I tried this when I was a poor college student decades ago and it worked!

We had a similar problem... we had to get rid our 2 cats due to our son's allergies. Also because my son had other sensitivities, so we chose not to use bombs, powders or other pesticides; instead I bought flea collars and put them in the vacuum bag and vacuumed often. At first, every day.
It's important to keep in mind the flea's life cycle too; after a week or so new eggs hatched so I vacuumed a few days in a row. Soon the fleas were gone.
It wasn't the quickest fix, nonetheless my house and it's contents were not covered in poison and the bonus was my floors were oh so tidy (for a while: ) )

sprinkle borax on the floor and vacuum after an hour.
This dehydrates the eggs the fleas have laid, and stops the recreation process

They are fleas. I am a school nurse and I know what lice are. We started with the night lights and pans of water with drop of dish soap. In 2 nights we have gotten between 50 to 60 fleas , just in 2 rooms. Wish I had known this one sooner. I'm sure it's going to take awhile but it's working. We need to buy more night lights and do all the rooms now.

Look in Thrifty Fun, Share Tips, Several suggestions and tips regarding removing fleas. Light/Lamp above bowl with few drops of dish soap seems safe popular way to start. Change water daily. Take time to get rid of them. Check out Heloise Hints on line.

We had the same problem, fleas that were never ending no matter how many bug bombs we set off, though we didn't call an exterminator. We finally found out that possums were living under our bathroom floor and the fleas were coming from there. Even got in where it wasn't grouted but i think most came from the cabinets. Perhaps some eggs were laid inside your cracks that weren't reached.

Are you 100% sure they are fleas? I ask because I worked at a county health office for a while, and we had a lot of people who had fleas and lice confused.
