RE: Does My Dog Have Mange?

I just read on a pet food website that too much dry food will cause a pet to lose hair, itch, and/or to be overly sensitive to human touch. (It's the corn and chemicals that cause this. Best to buy cheap cuts of MEAT to feed them, and not give "cereal" at all, they said.)

Fleas can also cause bad places on the skin. If it is more flaky than gritty, it's likely not fleas and their "dirt".

If you are hurting for money, I heard that farmers put motor oil on their farm dogs with mange. I'd not put too much and would use rubber gloves you can toss. Don't let the animal inside until well in case it's ringworm or
mange. But keep their bedding VERY clean and dry, renewing
often. God bless and help you. : )

A microscope is necessary to know if it really is mange. You can bring your sample (a little skin scraping) to the vet and ask for just the test. Then search 'mange' for the best treatment. Tea tree oil or vinegar will make the parasites laugh.

RE: Does My Dog Have Mange?

We thought my first husband's mom's Doberman had mange, too. But when she moved in with us and away from my first husband's mom's home (and his bratty baby sister, who used to abuse her,) we quickly discovered her hair loss wasn't mange, only nervous tension from the little terror's mistreatment.
Then when I got pregnant, the poor doggie's hair started falling out all over again. Poor baby had bad nerves, that's all that caused her hair loss.
Ony a vet can tell you for sure, but the ideas on here (especially the tea tree shampoo) are good ones. I'd try those first.

RE: Does My Dog Have Mange?

Pour some tea tree oil into your dog's shampoo, and shampoo it really well, being careful not to get any in the eyes. Tea tree oil will not only kill the mange, it will soothe any sore spots your dog may have. You can repeat if necessary. Tea tree will not hurt your dog, is relatively cheap, and is an easy fix. Forget the toxic dips.

If you cant afford the vet, go to the local hardware and buy mange dip, and follow instructions. I live in rural area and even walmart carries it for about 15.00 dollars. I'm not an expert but I breed dogs for a living and the breeder who got me started is very knowledgeable. I've learned a lot of these things, we can handle ourselves.

Mange is a parasite, you need to see the vet for help.

It could be shedding or a number of other issues. The vet can test the skin to see if it is mange. It would be best to consult on this, and then you will know what it is.

You need to take your dog to the vet ASAP. He can tell you whether it's mange or an allergic reaction.
