"THE TEACHER" Poem

I have this sweet poem in my family scrapbook, and thought I'd like to share it:

The Teacher

When meeting someone at the first,
They often ask me what I do.
I smile and think of how I taught
My little boy to tie his shoe,
And how to sing and how to pray
And how to tell the time of day.
Why the rainbow's in the sky,
Why birdies can, but cow's can't fly.
Why sky is blue and grass is green
And unicorns are never seen.
How to think of others first
And deal with life's little hurts.
To say "Thank You" and "You're welcome"
Say "Please for food, don't reach."
When someone asks me what I do,
I simply smile and say, "I TEACH."

RE: "THE TEACHER" Poem

Hi! I am the author of that poem! Imagine my surprise when I googled my name and found it here on your site. I don't mind my poem being posted as Sharon graciously gave me credit. I'm quite honored, actually, that it is in her scrap book as I'm very much into journaling. I just thought you'd like to know I wrote that poem when my now 18 year old was around 2. I quit my full-time teaching job to be home with him. I never regretted it, but sometimes I felt as if I'd lost my identity. God reminded me that being mom was the most awesome responsibility I could have. I was touching the future!
