Use Bacon Drippings For Starting CampfiresBy Jerry from Centralia, MO Feedback About This Post:RE: Use Bacon Drippings For Starting CampfiresIf you look hard enough, you can find all-natural uncured bacon most places these days (no nitrites/nitrates). I get mine from Costco and spend about as much per pound as you might for the carcinogenic stuff elsewhere. It's still pig fat, but do you really think Baco's are better for you? Easy on the dryer lint, too - flaming cotton releases some nasty stuff. Regardless, I'm looking forward to my first attempt at lighting some hippie-hardwood coals with all-natural bacon grease. Post By Scott (Guest Post) RE: Use Bacon Drippings For Starting CampfiresDryer lint makes a great fire starter for campfires. Some people pour the bacon grease onto chunks of dryer lint, to make "starter cubes" to take camping. I haven't personally tried this, but certainly it should work. Love that idea! However, since the nitrites/nitrates in bacon and all cold-cuts cause brain tumors, and bacon is so high in harmful fats, we no longer buy bacon, only season using a tiny amount with McCormick Bacon bits in green veggies occasionally. Post By Lynda (Guest Post) |
